| The crystal structure o f the title com pound was determined at -9 5 °C. It crystallizes in space group P 1 with a = 577.5(3), b = 820.2(3), c = 1916.6(8) pm, a = 83.34(2), ß = 82.83(2), y = 83.61(2)° and Z = 2. The final R value was 0.034 for 3019 unique observed reflections. The presence o f aggregates o f four ions (two cations and two an ions) in the solid state is observed, with short cat-ion-anion contacts Sn — 0 (290 pm) and Cl --O (298 pm). The bond lengths o f the 4-dimethyl-aminopyridinium moiety o f the cation suggest a semiquinoid resonance form with a double bond to the nitrogen o f the dim ethylam ino group and two localized double bonds in the ring. The ring, the dimethylamino group (except H atom s) and the Sn atom are coplanar. The S " -N bond length is 170.3 pm, the N -S " -C angle 99.6°. The S ° -C bond is approximately perpendicular to the ring plane. | | |

W hen 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) was added to the electrochemical cell, the ad-ducts [M (pymt)2(bipy)], or [M(pymt)2(phen)] (M = Zn or Cd) were obtained. Crystals o f [Cd(pymt)2phen] are orthorhombic, with a = 9.882(2), b = 12.491(1), c = 16.513(2)A, space group P 2,2,2, and Z = 4. | N b0g9Fe093Te2 and T a0 77Fe0 90Te2 were prepared by chemical transport reactions. The crys tal structures of both com pounds were determined using X-ray single crystal methods. The structures of the layer com pounds N b0g9Fe093Te2 (P mna, Z = 2, a = 7.951(1) Ä, b = 7.241(1) Ä, c = 6.233(1) Ä) and T a077Fe0 90Te2 (P mna, Z = 2, a = 7.890(2) Ä, b = 7.252(2) Ä, c = 6.192(1) Ä) are based on a hexagonal close packing of Te atoms. Approximately one-half of the octahedral holes in this packing are occupied by N b (Ta) atoms, about one-quarter of the tetrahedral holes are occupied by Fe atoms. The relationship to the NiAs structure type is discussed. | | |

| The secondary amine piperidine and the tertiary amine quinuclidine (l-azabicyclo[2.2.2]-octane) were reacted in TH F with one equivalent of triphenylphosphinegold(I) tetrafluoro borate, [Ph3PAu]+ BF4", to give the m onoaurated ammonium salts of formula [R"NHp_")AuPPh3]+ BF4~ (n = 2, 3). The compounds were obtained as crystalline solids in good yields, and were characterized by IR and N M R spectroscopy as well as mass spectrom etry and elemental analysis. The crystal structure of the quinuclidinium salt was determined (space group Pbca, Z = 8). The analysis shows independent formula units with no intermolec ular Au---Au contacts. The A u (I)-N bond (2.11(1) Ä) is significantly longer than the average value found in poly-aurated ammonium salts. | | |
