 Title    The Vacuolar Localization of Grapevine Peroxidase Isoenzymes Capable of Oxidizing 4-Hydroxystilbenes  
 Abstract    A study o f the subcellular localization o f peroxidase isoenzymes capable o f oxidizing 4-hydroxystilbenes to viniferin-type com pounds has been carried out in cultured cells derived from Vitis vinifera cv. G am ay berries. The study revealed that these isoenzym es are apparently located, in soluble form, in the vacuolar sap and are strongly inhibited by vacuolar anthocya-ni(di)ns in the concentration range found in planta. These results suggest that the inhibition o f the 4-H S peroxidase system in vacuoles, as a consequence o f anthocyani(di)n accum ulation, could be responsible for the loss o f viniferin production potential which accompanies grape berry veraison.
