 Title    Influence of the Parasite Viscum cruciatum Sieber on the Chemical Constituents of Crataegus monogyna Jacq  
 Abstract    A phytochemical study of two plant species, Viscum cruciatum Sieber and Crataegus m ono­ gyna Jacq., was completed to investigate the influence of the parasite Viscum cruciatum on the host Crataegus monogyna. The study was carried out with two samples and consisted of hexane extracts of the Viscum cruciatum parasitizing on Crataegus monogyna and C. mono­ gyna. In these samples ursolic acid, /3-sitosterol and a triterpene fraction were found that contained mainly butyrospermol (3/3-lanost 8 , 24-dien, 3-ol), 24-methylene-24-dihydrolanost-erol (24-methylene-5a-lanost-8-en-3/?-ol), cycloartenol (9ß, 19-cyclo-5a, 9/?-lanost-24-en-3/?-ol), /?-amyrin (olean-12-en-3/?-ol) and several aliphatic alcohols identified as the C 18 to C30 members of the 1 -alkanol homologous series. ß-Amyrin acetate was only isolated from Viscum cruciatum and was not found in Cratae­ gus monogyna.

 Title    Chemical Constituents of the Lichen Stereocaulon azoreum  
 Abstract    Column chromatography of the acetone extract of the lichen Stereocaulon azoreum afforded several substances identified by chemical and spectral means; a-amyrin, lupeol, taraxerol, ursolic acid, ergosterol peroxide, brassicasterol, cerevisterol, stictic acid and an acetone-con-densation derivative, lobaric acid. Furthermore atranorin, methyl ß-orsellinate, atranol and, for the first time from the genus Stereocaulon, cryptostictic acid and the dibenzofuran, strepsi-lin were isolated.

 Title    Chemical Composition of Brazilian Propolis from Sao Paulo State  
 Abstract    Two propolis samples from Sao Paulo State were investigated by GC/MS. 39 compounds were identified, 8 being new for propolis. Both samples showed some similarities in their qualitative composition. In one of them, coum aric acid and its prenylated derivatives predo­ minated, while in the other one triterpenic alcolhols were the main constituents.

 Title    New Triterpenes from the Frond Exudate of the Fern Notholaena vigida  
 Abstract    Two new triterpenoids, isolated from the frond exudate of the fern Notholaena rigida, have been identified as 3 ß, 12 ß,25-trihydroxy-(20/?-24/?)-epoxy-dammarane-12-acetate (1), and 24/?,25-diO-isopropyliden-9(19)-cyclolanostan-3 ß-ol (5), based on N M R spectroscopic studies.

 Title    Arcapitins A -C, First Dammarane-Type Triterpenes from the Convolvulaceae  
 Abstract    Three new dammarane-type triterpenes, named arcapitin A , B and C, were isolated from the roots of Argyreia capitata (Convolvulaceae). They turned out to be lla-acetoxydam m ar-24-ene-20(S)-ol-3-one, dam m ar-24-ene-lla,20(S)-diol-3-one and lla-acetoxydam m ar-24-ene-3/?,20(S)-diol. While the same compounds were also detected in the aerial vegetative parts of this species, their occurrence in a number not be confirmed.
