 Abstract    The compounds NaCdAs and TICdSb were prepared from the elements, they crystallize in a modified anfi-PbC^-type lattice, space group Pnma-D|{j. The lattice constants are NaCdAs: a = 757.6(4) pm; b = 447.1(4) pm; c = 804.4(4) pm; TICdSb: a = 817.7(5) pm; b = 488.5(5) pm; c = 851.4(5) pm.

 Title    Fehlordnung von Kationen und Kristallwasser bei kubischen Alkalitetrabromo-und -iodothallaten(III) Disorder of Cations and Water Molecules in Cubic Tetrabromo-and -iodothallates  
 Abstract    Tetrabromo-and -iodothallates(III) of the alkali cations crystallise from aqueous solutions as cubic hydrates MTlX4-nH20 (M = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, NH4; X — Br, I; n — 1-2). The tetraiodothallates retain their cubic structure on dehydratisation, while the tetrabromothallates undergo structural changes. The X-ray structure analyses of RbTlBr4 • H20, NH4TlBr4 • 2HoO and KTlBr4 • 2H20 (—50 °C) showed that these com-pounds consist of a three-dimensional framework of TlBr4 tetrahedra and MBrjo ikosahedra which reminds of zeolites. In cavities of this framework 2/3 of the alkali cations and the crystal water molecules are accommodated in a disordered manner.

The title compound contains isolated T l12 icosahedra, which are centered by T1 atoms. The icosahedra are in an a-W-type arrangement.

 Abstract    Rb4Cd(V0)(V2 0 7)2Cl und Tl4C d(V0)(V20 7)2Cl Synthesis and X-Ray Structure Analysis o f Rb4C d (V 0)(V 20 7)2Cl and Tl4C d(V 0)(V 20 7)2Cl Single crystals of (I) Rb4Cd(V0)(V20 7)2Cl and (II) Tl4C d(V 0)(V 20 7)2Cl have been prepared by flux techniques. The compounds were examined by X-ray analysis. They crystallize with tetragonal symmetry, space group C{-P4 with (I): a = 9 .142(1); c = 5.525(1), (II): a = 9.150(1), c = 5.405(1) A, Z = 4. Both compound belong to the K4CuV50 | 5Cl-Type. V (l) forms V20 7 double tetrahedra, connected by square V (2)0 5 pyramids and C d 0 4Cl2 octahedra. The short V (2)-0 distance indicates a vanadyl group.

 Title    Quantitative Investigations on the Diaplacental Transfer of Thallium by Field Desorption Mass Spectrometry  
 Abstract    The placental transfer of thallium cations in pregnant mice was investigated by determining the thallium concentrations in fetal and maternal tissue 0.5 to 24 h after application of thallium. The maternal dose o f thallium was 8 mg/kg body weight throughout. Uterus and fetus were found not to differ from other organs like heart and liver in time course and magnitude of thallium uptake with an initial surge during the first few hours of exposure to thallium and a rapid decrease to steady 12 and 24 h values somewhat lower than those found in the kidney. Diaplacental transfer is therefore assumed comparatively rapid and a specific placental barrier for thallium does not seem to exist. For the determination of thallium concentrations Field Desorption Mass Spectrometry was utilized as a reliable, fast, and sensitive method for the analysis o f metal cations in biological material. This method does not require extensive pretreatment of the tissue and total sample amounts in the range of milligrams and less are sufficient for quantitative analysis.
