| The essential oil o f M atricaria cham omilla roots has been investigated. Besides the known com pounds for this plant organ /ra«5-^-farnesene,/ra«5-a-famesene, cham om illaester I and II, we found the two spiroether only described for the aeriel parts. /?-caryophyllene, m -caryo hyllene and caryophyllenepoxid are found for the first tim e in M atricaria chamomilla. One o f the m ain constituents is a hitherto unknown sesquiterpene-alkohol with muurolene-structure. W ith the aid o f spectroscopical data ('H -N M R , 13C -N M R , MS) we determined its structure. We propose the name cham om illol for the new com pound. Besides the known resin ducts longitudinally orientated we found resin ducts transversally orientated and oil cells. | | | |
