| Über die Zusammensetzung des ätherischen Öls aus Artemisia dracunculus L. während der Vegetationsperiode On the Composition of the Essential Oil from Artem isia dracunculus L. during the Vegetation Period | | | Abstract
| The main components of the essential oil from Artemisia dracunculus L., as there are sabinene, methyl eugenol, estragol and elemicine, are present in variable quantities depending on the season. The biosynthesis o f the phenolic compounds in tarragon is in accordance with the shikimate pathway. Elemicine is likely to be a metabolic product o f shikimic acid with no further mono-or bisphenolic intermediates involved. | | |

| On the Volatile Components of Heterotropa takaoi and Related Species (Aristolochiaceae) | | | Abstract
| The volatile components of the leaves of four species and five varieties of the section Bicornes of Heterotropa were examined by gas chromatography and gas chromatograph-mass spectro-metry. The analytical results showed that the species of the section contain phenylpropanes, terpenes, and a paraffin as main components. The components have been used to construct phylogenetic trees of the section Bicornes. Despite some discrepancies, the phylogenetic tree obtained for the section seems to be relevant at the tribal revel. Among the species of the section, geographical variation of twelve localities of H. takaoi also were examined and three chemical types (myristicin, safrole, n-pentane-elemicin types) of H. takaoi are distinguished on the basis of their components. | | |

| Chemical Intra-Mediterranean Variation and Insecticidal Activity of Crithmum maritimum | | | Abstract
| The chemical composition of the volatile metabolites of Crithmum maritimum harvested from several geographic localities along the M editerranean coasts was studied by GC and GC-MSD. The major oil constituents were found to be dillapiole, y-terpinene, sabinene, limo-nene and ß-phellandrene. The W estern populations were richer in dillapiole, whereas the Southern collections were characterized by increased amounts of thymol methyl ether and y-terpinene. The Italian chemical profiles differentiated by the significant contributions of carvacrol methyl ether and isoterpinolene. The essential oils were also investigated for their insecticidal activity and their repellency against Pheidole pallidula (Nylander) ants and found to possess significant activity. | | |

| Reversed Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography of Essential Oils | | | Abstract
| A reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic procedure for the separation of essential oils is described. Applying water-acetonitrile elution systems on octyl and octadecyl-silane-bonded silica, complex mixtures o f sequiterpenes and oxygenated volatile constituents can be resolved, comparably to the quality o f gas chromatographic analysis. Photometrical detection at different wavelengths can be an important parameter in optimizing the separation of essential oil constituents. The application o f the described method is demonstrated with naturally occurring mixtures of terpenes from leaves of Cistus ladanifer. | | |

| Zusammensetzung und Akkumulation des ätherischen Öls in Matricariae Radix (2. Mitteilung) Composition and Accum ulation o f Essential Oil in Matricariae Radix (2. Com m unication) | | | Abstract
| The essential oil o f M atricaria cham omilla roots has been investigated. Besides the known com pounds for this plant organ /ra«5-^-farnesene,/ra«5-a-famesene, cham om illaester I and II, we found the two spiroether only described for the aeriel parts. /?-caryophyllene, m -caryo hyllene and caryophyllenepoxid are found for the first tim e in M atricaria chamomilla. One o f the m ain constituents is a hitherto unknown sesquiterpene-alkohol with muurolene-structure. W ith the aid o f spectroscopical data ('H -N M R , 13C -N M R , MS) we determined its structure. We propose the name cham om illol for the new com pound. Besides the known resin ducts longitudinally orientated we found resin ducts transversally orientated and oil cells. | | |

About 30 components have been identified. The oil revealed insecticidal properties against aphids. Very little phytotoxicity was observed. The insecticidal activity could not be attributed to one o f the single main substituents o f the oil. | | |

| (Asarum petelotii, Elsholtzia souliei, Eupatorium adenophorum, Micromeria biflora) in Yunnan | | | Abstract
| The volatile components of the essential oils of four Chinese medicinal Plants (Micromeria biflora, Elsholtzia souliei, Eupatorium adenophorum, Asarum petelotii) were investigated by GC and GC-MS. Large amounts of terpenes (geranial, naginataketone, p-cymene, ß-himacha-lene), or phenol ethers (apiole, elemicin, l,2,3,4-tetramethoxy-5-allyl-benzene) were iden tified in the oils. | | |
