 Title    Synthese S-substituierter Benzile und einiger gehinderter Biphenyle [1] Synthesis of S-Substituted Benzils and Some Hindered Biphenyls [1]  
 Abstract    Three methylthio and/or methylsulfinyl substituted benzils (2, 6 and 7) have been synthesized on photo-or thermochemical routes, respectively. Photodecarboxylation of some new different substituted mesityl benzoates (1 a-e) leads to hindered biphenyls (3 a-e) accompanied sometimes by aldehyde (4a-c) and benzil formation (2) due to compatitive a-cleavage and subsequent stabilization processes of such generated free aroyl radicals. A short summary on constitutional conditions for intramolecular photoredox reactions of ortho functionalized aryl sulfinyl compounds is presented.

 Title    Die Kristallstruktur von A sF5 0 S C F 2S (0 2)CF2 The Crystal Structure of A sF 5 * 0& C F2S (0 2)C F 2  
 Abstract    The crystal structure of AsF5 • 0$C F2S(02)CF2 is reported. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with a = 749.1(3) pm, b = 770.6(3) pm and c = 1630.0(5) pm, V = 960.9(6)-106 pm3, Z = 4. Einleitung Intensiv ist in den letzten Jähen die Chemie der Dithietane F 2tS (O x)FyC F 2S(Ov)Fw im Arbeitskreis Sundermeyer [1] und von uns [2] untersucht wor­ den. Ein Ziel unserer Arbeiten war es, das D onor­ verhalten dieser Systeme gegenüber Fluor-Lewis-Säuren (AsF5, SbF5, BF3) zu untersuchen und die Grenzen zwischen Carbenium-, Sulfoniumsalz-und Addukt-Bildung zu erkennen. Durch Strukturun­ tersuchungen konnte belegt werden, daß AsF5 aus F2CSCF2S F " abstrahiert unter Bildung des cycli­ schen Carbeniumions FCSC F2S+ [lb]; nach IR-und 1' 9F-N M R -U ntersuchungen führt die analoge Umsetzung von F 7SCF?S(0")C F7 (n = 0 -2) zu Sul-foniumsalzen FSC F2S(0")CF2+ [lc], während in Sulfoxid-Derivaten die Lewis-Säure an den Sauer­ stoff unter Bildung von F 2CS(0")CF2S 0 • M F 5 (n = 0 -2) addiert wird. In der vorliegenden Arbeit be­ richten wir über die Struktur des Adduktes F2C S 0 2C F2S 0 • A sF5 (2 a).

 Title    eine neue photoinduzierte Sauerstoff-Transfer-Reaktion 1 Photoreactions of 2-Sulfinyl Substituted Benzaldehydes - a New Photoinduced Oxygen-Transfer Reaction  
 Abstract    The photochemical conversion of 2-sulfinyl substituted benzaldehydes into benzoic acids in a new type of redox reaction is discribed in which a transfer of an oxygen atom, originally attached to sulphur, takes place by insertion into the C-H bond of the aldehyde function located in ortho position. Influences of substituents at the sulfinyl group in this photo-reaction which seems to be limitated to aldehydes are discussed briefly.
