 Title    Darstellung und Kristallstruktur von Cs6Cl40 P rep aratio n and Crystal S tructure of Cs6Cl40  
 Abstract    The solid state synthesis and the crystal struc­ ture of Cs6Cl40 (Pearson-code hR22, R3c, a = 1324.7(6), c -1658(1) pm, Z -6, 931 reflections with I0 > 2a(I), R\ = 0.040, wR2 = 0.114) are repor­ ted. The compound crystallises isotypically with Rb6Cl40 in the anti-K4CdCl6 type of structure. The structure consists of infinite chains of alterna­ ting face-sharing OCs6 octahedra and ClCs6 trigo­ nal prisms which are separated by chloride anions. The underlying structural concept and the ana­ logy to perovskites are outlined.

 Abstract    R b 8A 1 0 4A u3 = R b 5A 1 0 4-3RbAu -an A lu m in ate A uride A nja-V eren a M udring R b8A 1 0 4Au3 (Pearson-Code oP64, /*212121, a = 1043.4(1), b = 1296.7(2), c = 1320.2(2) pm, Z = 4, 809 reflections with IQ > 2a(I), Rj = 0.059, w R 2 = 0.151) is a further, completely new representative belonging to the group of composite alkali metal aurides. It consists of structural elem ents of alkali orthoaluminates and alkali aurides. Indeed, Rb8A 1 0 4Au3 is thus better represented by the formula Rb5A 1 0 4-3RbAu.

 Title    Synthesis and Structure of RE2Rh2Cd (RE = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm)  
 Abstract    New intermetallic cadmium compounds /?£2Rh2Cd (r e = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm) were syn­ thesized from the elements in sealed tantalum tubes in a high-frequency furnace. They were characterized through X-ray powder data: Mo2FeB2 type, space group P4/mbm, Z = 2. Single crystal data of the cerium compound (a = 762.8(1), c = 377.8(1) pm, wR2 = 0.0662, 199 F2 values, and 13 variable parameters) revealed small defects on the rhodium position leading to the composition Ce2R h186(3)Cd for the investi­ gated crystal. According to the course of the cell volumes Ce2Rh2Cd may be classified as a mixed-valent compound. The Ce2Rh2Cd structure is an intergrowth of slightly distorted A1B2 and CsCl related slabs of compositions CeRh2 and CeCd. Within the CeRh2 slab short Ce-Rh contacts (284-300 pm) are indicative of strong Ce-Rh bonding. The Rh-Rh distance within the A1B2 re­ lated slab is 289 pm.
