 Abstract    On the Crystal Chemistry of Oxoplatinates. A New Phase of the Composition Sr4 _xN avP t0 6 (x -0.33) G. Tams, Hk. Single crystals of Sr3 67Na() 33PtO fi were prepared by heating oxide mixtures in closed silver tubes and investigated by X-ray single crystal techniques. It crystallizes with trigonal symme­ try, space group Dfd-R 3 c (Nr. 167) with a = 9.6617, c = 11.6580 Ä, Z = 6. Sr367Na()33P t0 6 belongs to the Sr4P t0 6 type and is isotypic to K4CdCl6. One point position characterized by a trigonal prismatic O 2-coordination is occupied by N a+ and Sr2+ statistically. The crystal structure is discussed with respect to the related compounds Sr3C u P t0 6 and Ca3 5Cu() 5P t0 6.

The phase contains two structural elements: The Pt-atoms form tetrahedra, which are covered by bigger Ge-tetrahedra. The Na-atoms build a 3-D-network consisting of chains crossed under right angels.

 Title    A Contribution to the Crystal Chemistry of Alcaline Alealine Earth Precious Metal Perovskites. Synthesis and Crystal Structure of NaBa4Cuo,5Pti,50 8  
 Abstract    Single crystals of the phase NaBa4Cu0 5P t1 s0 8 were prepared in closed silver tubes. The black and moisture sensitive crystals were investigated by four-circle diffractometer X-ray tech­ niques. They show trigonal symmetry, space group D2-P321, a = 10.0644, c = 8.3811 A, Z = 3 and belong to the perovskites. The typical M20 9 double octahedra are occupied by Pt4+ and Cu2+ in a different manner. Na+ is partly in and out of the centres of trigonal prisms of oxygen. These features will be discussed with respect

 Title    Eine synthetische Spezies zum Mineral Howardevansit mit Eisen anstelle von Kupfer: NaFe3V 30 12  
 Abstract    Single crystals of NaFe3V30 12 have been prepared by solid state reaction below the melt­ ing point of the reaction mixture. This compound is isotypic to the mineral Howardevansite but shows lower triclinic symmetry, space group C }-P 1 , a = 6.757(2), b = 8.155(2), c = 9.816(3) Ä, a = 106.05(2), ß = 104.401(9), y = 102.09(2)°, Z = 2. The acentric space group is caused by the sodium positions, all other atoms comply with the space group PI of Howarde­ vansite. The different ions are coordinated by O2-forming V 0 4 tetrahedra, FeOfi octahedra, trigonal FeOs bipyramids and irregular NaOs and NaOy polyhedra, respectively. The crystal chemistry is discussed with respect to Howardevansite.

 Abstract    Single crystals of NaSr3I r 0 6 have been prepared by heating mixtures of Na20 2, SrO and iridium in closed silver tubes and were investigated by X-ray techniques^ NaSr3I r 0 6 crystal­ lizes with trigonal (rhombohedral) symmetry in the space group D 3d-R 3 c , a = 9.636(2), c = 11.556(3) A , Z = 6, and is isotypic to compounds of the Sr4P t 0 6 type. The substitution of Sr2+ by N a+ in NaSr3I r 0 6 led to an ordered metal distribution and an increase of the oxida­ tion state from IrIV to Irv.

 Abstract    Single crystals of A g 04Na23Ca43RuO8 have been prepared by heating Na20 2, CaO and ruthenium in closed silver tubes. Silver took part in the reaction. The crystal structure was investigated by X-ray techniques. A g 04N a2.3Ca43R uO 8 crystallizes with orthorhombic sym­ metry, space group D^-Cm m m ; a = 9.255(1), b = 6.683(1), c = 6.696(3) Ä , Z = 2. It shows relations to the sodium chloride structure. A statistical distribution of A g + and N a+ can be separated in micro space by splitting one oxygen position to give a dumb-bell like O -A g -O and an octahedral N a 0 6 coordination.

 Abstract    Single crystals of Na3Cd2Ir0 6 have been prepared by crystallization from melts in closed silver tubes. The crystal structure was investigated by X-ray techniques. Na^Cd^IrOf, crystallizes with monoclinic symmetry, space group Cih-C2/m; a = 5.663(2), b = 9.783(3), c = 5.689(2) A, ß = 109.95(2)°, Z = 2. It is isotypic to M+5A7+0 6 (M = Li, Na; A = Re, Os) and shows relations to the sodium chloride structure in spite of an ordered distribution of Na+, Cd2+ and Ir5+.

 Title    On an Octastannanediide R*6Sn8[Na(THF)2]2 and the Possible Existence of an Octastannane R*6Sn8 [ 1 ]  
 Abstract    The black, air and moisture sensitive octastannanediide R*6Sn8[Na(THF)2]2 (4) (R* = Si/Bu3) is prepared by reaction of Sn[N(SiM e3)2]2 with R*Na in rBuOMe at -78°C . Red brown octa­ stannane R*6Sn8 (5) is formed by thermolysis of the tristannacyclopropene R*4Sn3 in benzene at 100 °C. According to the result of the X-ray structural analysis, 4 contains a Sn8 cubane with six Sn atoms each connected with R* and two at the end o f a space diagonal connected with Na(THF)2. A preliminary X-ray structure analysis shows 5 to adopt the same Sn8 cubane structure as 4 with two bare Sn atoms at the end of a space diagonal.

 Title    Preparation and Crystal Structure of Na4TiSe4. A Selenotitanate with Discrete Tetrahedral Anions  
 Abstract    Red crystals of Na4TiSe4 were obtained by reacting an intimate mixture of Na2Se, Ti and Se at 750°C. Na4TiSe4 is monoclinic, space group I2/a with a = 24.027(6), b = 7.346(4), c = 21.572(6) A, (3 = 104.52(2)°, Z = 16. Its crystal structure was determined from diffractometer data (AgK a-radiation) and refined to a conventional R of 0.036 for 2673 F0's and 158 variables. The crystal structure is of a new type, characterized by the presence of discrete tetrahedral complex anions, [TiSe,*]4" , which are arranged in slabs parallel to (100). The average Ti-Se bond length is 2.385(1) A. The Na+ cations are in different chalcogen environments with distorted octahedral, square pyramidal or planar configurations, respectively.

 Abstract    Four ternary sodium phases with the formula Na2BX (B = Cd, Hg; X = Sn, Pb) were prepared and structurally investigated. The structures of the cubic phases Na2HgSn, Na2CdPb and Na2HgPb (space group F43m) are closely related to LiaBi, that of Na2CdSn (space group P63mmc) to the hexagonal structure of NaßAs.

 Title    SbCI3, BiCl3 and Na+ Complexes of Maleonitrile-Dithiacrown Ethers: Synthesis, Crystal Structures and DEP-MS Experiments  
 Abstract    The reactions of MC13 (M = Sb, Bi) with maleonitrile-dithia-15-crown-5 (mn-15S20 3) and maleonitrile-dithia-18-crown-6 (mn-18S20 4) in MeCN yielded the complexes [MCl3(mn-15S20 3)] {M = S b (l), Bi(2)} and [MCl3(mn-18S20 4)] {M = Sb(3), Bi(4)}, respec­ tively. The pyramidal MC13 units are coordinated very weakly to the three oxygen and two sulphur donor atoms of mn-15S20 3 in 1 and 2, and to the four oxygen donor atoms o f mn-18S20 4 in 3 and 4. Both mn-15S20 3 com plexes, 1 and 2, crystallize isotypically in the m ono­ clinic space group P2(\)ln with four formula units per unit cell, while the isotypic mn-18S20 4 complexes, 3 and 4, are triclinic, space group P-1, with two formula units per unit cell. In the SbCl3 complexes, 1 and 3, the mean contact distances between the Sb centres and the macro-cyclic donor atoms are longer than the corresponding distances in their isostructural BiCl3 analogues, 2 and 4, which may reflect a stereochem ical activity of the Sb,n lone pair. Under the conditions of DEP-M S experim ents with 1 and 3 the monocationic SbCl2+ complexes [SbCl2(L)]+ (L = mn-15S20 3, mn-18S20 4) were detected. NaSbCl6 and mn-18S20 4 in M eCN furnished the 2:1 complex [Na(mn-18S20 4)2]SbCl6 {(5)SbCl6). In the com plex cation 5 the sodium atom is coordinated sandwich-like through the eight oxygen atoms of two mn-18S20 4 molecules. Compound (5)SbCl6 crystallize in the triclinic space group P -1 with two formula units per unit cell.

 Title    Magnesium Bis[D(-)-Mandelate] Dihydrate and Other Alkaline Earth, Alkali, and Zinc Salts of Mandelic Acid  
 Abstract    , and zinc D(-)mandelates have been prepared from the parent mandelic acid and equivalent quantities (1:1 / 2:1) of the corresponding metal hydroxides in water. Colourless polycrystalline products are obtained from the aqueous solutions by evaporation of the solvent. The alkali, ammonium and strontium salts are anhydrous, the calcium and barium salts are monohydrates, the magne­ sium salt is a dihydrate, and the zinc salt a trihydrate. The crystal and molecular structure of the magnesium salt has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods (mono­ clinic, space group P2i, Z = 2). The lattice contains isolated complexes with hexacoordinate magnesium atoms chelated by two mandelate anions through one of their carboxylate oxygen atoms and the alcoholic hydroxyl group. Two water molecules in cis position are completing the octahedral coordination sphere. [MgtQITO^MfTO^] is thus a true mononuclear magnesium complex. Its stability and non-hygroscopic properties suggest its use as a magnesium and/or mandelate drug.
