 Title    Solid-State 29Si VACP/MAS NMR Studies of Silicon-Accumulating Plants: Structural Characterization of Biosilica Deposits  
 Abstract    A series of silicon-accumulating plants [different Equisetum (horse tail) species, Echium vulgare, and Symphytum officinale] were studied by solid-state 29Si NMR experiments. For this purpose, selected parts of these plants were freeze-dried and then investigated by solid-state ~9Si VACP/MAS NMR spectroscopy. The 29Si NMR spectra of these plants are quite similar and exhibit the typical pattern characteristic of polysilicic acid (amorphous silica).

 Title    Phthalocyanines on Mineral Carriers, 2* Synthesis of Cobalt(II) and Copper(II)-phthalocyanines on y-Al20 3 and S i0 2  
 Abstract    The reaction o f metal loaded y -A l20 3 and S i 0 2 with benzene-1,2-dicarbonitrile (2) resp. 1H-isoind ole-l,3(H)diim ine (3) results in the /^-modification o f m etallized phthalocyanines (1; metals: C u(II), C o(II)). 1 is form ed with an average yield o f 4 8 —64% in uniform distribution on the carriers from the reaction with 2. The sizes o f the surface areas of the supports are not changed significantly by loading with 1. Non-uniform distribution or even unsupported crystals o f 1 are found if the synthesis is carried out with 3.

 Title    Neue Modifikationen des Siliciumdioxids New Modifications of Silica  
 Abstract    A new family of modifications of silica is obtained by thermal dehydration of crystalline silicic acids with layer structures. Examples are SiC>2 0.11 H2O, SiC>2 • 0.04 H2O, SiC>2 prepared by dehydration of H2Sii4029 • 5.4 H2O, H^SisOi? • rrH^O and H2Si4C>9. The "water content" can amount up to 3 weight percent and results from uncondensed inter-layer silanol groups or from water molecules which are trapped between the layers. In some cases dehydration in the presence of organic interlayer molecules leads to different forms of silica.
