 Abstract    Electrophysiological recordings from antennal hair sensilla of male P. flam m ea revealed two types (A, B) of presumed pheromone receptor cells. The A receptors responded max­ imally to (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate and the B cells to (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate. In the field, a 100:5 mixture of the two compounds attracted 10 times more males than the (Z) -9 isomer alone.

 Title    Analysis o f a Sex-A ttractant System in the Noctuid M oth Rhyacia baja S ch iff  
 Abstract    Binary combinations o f (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate and (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate in a 1/10 ratio were highly attractive to Rh. baja males in field trapping tests con­ ducted in southern Germany. Trap captures increased further on adding 0.1 or 0.3% o f (Z)-5-dodecenyl acetate to this lure; higher amounts o f this chem ical were strongly inhibitory, as were additions o f >3% o f (Z)-ll-h e x a -decenyl acetate. The trapping data are considered in terms o f electrophysiological responses o f five types o f antennal receptor cells.

 Title    Screening and Use of Sex Attractants in Monitoring of Geometrid Moths in Bulgaria  
 Abstract    Four candidate sex attractants for geometrid moths have been screened individually and in mixtures. As a result, in addition to the confirmation of the known sex attractants of Operophtera brumata L. and Alsophila aceraria Denis & Schiff (— A. quadripunctata Esper), possible sex attractants for five other geometrid species have also been established. For O. brumata and A. aceraria an inhibitor has been found. For the same species the possibility for seasonal monitoring by means of sex pheromone traps was demonstrated.

 Title    A Sex Attractant for the Green Budworm Moth, Hedya nubiferana  
 Abstract    The two major components o f the female pheromone blend of H edya nubiferana have been identified as (E, £)-8,10-dodecadienyl acetate and (Z)-8-dodecenyl acetate. Each compound acts on a specialist receptor type in olfactory hair sensilla of the male antenna. In field screening tests, combinations of the two compounds and dodecanyl acetate were highly attractive to H. nubiferana males. The (Z, £)-8,10 isomer attracted males of H edya ochroleucana.

 Title    The Pheromone Receptor System o f M ale Eulia ministrana L., with N otes on Other Cnephasiini M oths  
 Abstract    The antennal Sensilla trichodea o f male Eulia ministrana (Tortricidae: Cnephasiini) contain specialist receptor cells for the sex-attractant components (Z)-9-and (Z)-l 1-tetra-decenyl acetate and the attraction-inhibitors (E)-11 -tetra-decenyl acetate, (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate, and (Z)-11 -hexa-decenyl acetate. The significance o f the latter two com ­ pounds as potential sex pheromone com ponents in Tortri­ cidae is considered.

 Title    Xestia triangulum Hufn. and X. ditrapezium  
 Abstract    Electrophysiological analysis of male antennal Sensilla trichodea in Xestia triangulum and X. ditrapezium showed that they contain the same five types of receptor cells in both species. These cells responded specifically to the (Z)-alkenyl acetates Z7-12:Ac, Z5-14:Ac, Z7-14:Ac, Z9-14:Ac and Z 11-14:Ac. Yet, in field trapping tests, male X. trian­ gulum were highly attracted to pure Z5-14:Ac as a single compound, whereas male X. ditrapezium responded speci­ fically to a ternary combination of Z5-/ Z7-/ Z9-14: Ac with the Z7 isomer as the major constituent. The four other "key compounds" in X. triangulum, and the other two in X. ditrapezium, inhibited trap captures. The results are con­ sidered in view of the close taxonomic relationship of the two species and their potential reproductive isolation from other, pheromonally-related noctuid moths.

 Title    Field Tests with Sex Attractants of Diachrysia chrysitis and D. tutti (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) at Several Sites in Hungary  
 Abstract    Sex attractants for the sibling taxa Diachrysia chrysitis (L.) s.str. and D. tutti (Kost.) were field tested on 9 sites in Hungary. Catches with the two already described attractant blends, Z-5-10:Ac/ Z-7-10:Ac in ratios 10:1 and 2:100, were similar to earlier results obtained in areas more to the west, chrysitis s.str. type males responding to the 10:1 while tutti type males to the 2:100 ratio. Substantial chrysitis s.str. catches were also obtained by the intermediate 1:1 blend. On all 9 sites the two taxa were co-occurring.

 Abstract    Species-specific sex-attractants are reported for western Palearctic Zygaena moths o f the carniolica, viciae, fili-pendulae, and purpuralis species groups.
