 Abstract    Some iodo elpasolites Cs2LiM m I6 (M 111 = Sc, Lu, Tm, Ho) and Cs2NaM I i I I6 (M»i = Sc, Lu, Tm, Er) have been prepared for the first time. According to Guinier-Simon X-ray powder photographs they belong to the elpasolite type structure (cubic K2NaAlF6-type and its tetra-gonal distorted variety: Cs2NaMIe) or to the Cs2LiGaF6-type structure (trigonal: Cs2LiMIe). The compounds Cs2LiTmX6 (X = CI, Br, I) are further characterized by Raman spectra and magnetic susceptibilities.

 Abstract    The new metastable compounds BaSr2YeOi2 (I), BaSr2Er60i2 (II) and BaSr2Tm60i2 (III) could be prepared with high temperature reactions (C02-Laser). The X-ray single crystal investigations lead to hexagonal symmetry, space group Ch-P63/m; lattice constants: I: o= 1029.9 c = 340.9 pm II: a = 1027.7 c = 338.5 pm III: a = 1021.5 c = 337.6 pm The crystal structure the formation of the compounds and the range of stabüity are discussed.

 Abstract    Kenntnis von EuBeGd20 5 mit einem Beitrag über Phasen der Zusammensetzung M1 _xM'A .BeLn20 5 : Ca0,4Sr0,6BeSm2O5, Ba0,25Ca0,75BeNd2O5 und Ba0,36Sr0,64BeNd2O5 On E uB eG d20 5 and on Phases of the Composition M 1_^M'xBeLn20 5: Ca0,4Sr06BeSm2O 5, Bao,2sCao,75 BeNd2 0 5 and Ba0 3 6 Sr0,64BeNd2O5 Single crystals of (I): E uB eG d20 5, (II): Ca0,4Sr0ABeSm 20 5, (III): Ba0,25 Ca()75B eN d2O 5 and (IV): Ba<)3 6Sr()64B eN d2O s were prepared by (I): plasma torch and (II)-(IV): C 0 2-LASER technique. X-Rayo investigations lead to (I) monoclinic (space group C 2h-P2j/c, a = 7.126, b = 6.457, c = 9.394 A, ß = 90.40°) and (I I)-(I V) orthorhombic symmetry (D ^ -P n m a). (II: a = 9.454, b = 7.142, c = 6.490 A; III: a = 9.508, b = 7.188, c = 6.531 A; IV: a = 9.642, b = 7.295, c = 6.614 A). In contrary to the phases M j^ M '^ B eL ^ O s, E uBeG d2Os is characterized by an ordered distribution of Eu2+ and G d3+ inside o f the Kagome network.

 Title    Two Examples of Partial and Total Defects in the B a«Ln2Mo4O i6-Type: BaCu0 41 ■o,59Pr2Mo4 0 16 and BaBYb2Mo4Ojg  
 Abstract    Single crystals of (I) BaCu0.4iPr2M o4O 16 and (II) BaYb2M o40 16 have been prepared by flux technique. Both compounds crystallize with m onoclinic symmetry, space group C2h-C 2 /c with (I): a = 5.352(11), b = 12.888(2), c = 19.399(4) A; ß = 90.89(3)°; (II): a = 5.181(7), b = 12.467(3), c -19.350(3) Ä , ß -91.93(2)°, Z = 4. The crystal structure is characterized by i [ B a M 0 12]-chains along [010]. In the first case the M positions are occupied by copper by about 41%, in the second case these positions remain com pletely unoccupied. With respect to the crystal chemistry of the reference compound Ba(Cu0.22Mg() 78)Nd2Mo4O 16 all substan­ ces of the composition BaLn2M o40 16 should be written as Ba»Ln2Mo40 16 indicating the holes in th e^ B a M O i^ -c h a in s by ■.

 Abstract    Reactions of B a C 0 3, ZnO and Yb20 3 mixtures at temperatures up to 1300 °C using plati­ num crucibles led to yellow needles of B a17Y b 16Zn8Pt40 57. The compound crystallizes with a hitherto unknown tetragonal crystal structure, space group C-4h-I4/m, a = 22.731(1), c = 5.682(1) A , Z = 2. The crystal structure is characterized by P t 0 6 octahedra and tetragonal Z n 0 5 pyramids. Yb3+ shows a mono-capped trigonal prismatic coordination and Ba2+ several different coordination environments (C .N = 9 to 10, by O2"). The relationship to the Ba5Ln8M40 2i type is discussed.

 Title    Zur Kenntnis eines Barium-Lanthanoid-Aluminat-Zinkats: BaLuAlZn30 7 mit einem Anhang zu Ba2Er2Zn80 13  
 Abstract    Reactions of B aC 03, ZnO, Lu20 3 and A120 3 mixtures at temperatures up to 1500 °C led to small and colourless rods of BaLuAlZn30 7. The new compound crystallizes with hexagonal symmetry, space group CöV -P63mc, a = 6.273, c =10.161 A, Z = 2. In spite of small differences in the oxygen content BaLuAlZn30 7 is isotypic to Ba2Ln2Zn80 13. The crystal structure shows Zn2+ with tetrahedral, Lu '+ with octahedral and Ba:+ with anticuboctahedral coordination by 0 2~. It has been shown that parts of the [Zn3A107]5_ network are fragments of the ZnO structure. In consequence one oxygen atom is fourfold coordinated by zinc/aluminium. The space group of Ba2Ln2ZnxO i3 must be corrected to C6V -P63mc.

 Abstract    Single crystals o f the new compounds LnZn(B5O |0) (Ln = (A) C e3+, (B) N d3+, (C) T b '+) were obtained by using a B 20 3 flux technique. X-ray investigations led to space group C2h-P 2,/n (Nr. 14) with lattice parameters: (A) a = 874.5(1), b = 761.4(1), c = 950.0(1), ß = 92.80(1)°, (B) a = 868.6(2), b = 760.9(2), c = 946.0(2), 0 = 92.9 9 (2)°, (C) a = 858.2(2), b = 760.5(2), c = 939.3(2), ß = 93.56(2)°, Z = 4. The structure is isotypic with C oSm (B 5 O |0) and is characte­ rized by two-dimensional infinite 2 (B 5 O 10)5_ ions. Ln is tenfold coordinated by oxygen, and Zn2+ occupies distorted Z n 0 6 polyfiedra.

 Abstract    Single crystals of Ln4[A lI20 24](Pb40 4)2 (Ln = Nd, Sm) have been prepared by flux techni­ ques. The compounds crystallize with cubic symmetry, space group Oh-Pn3m, a ^ = 9.514(1), asm = 9.481(1) A, Z = 1. The crystal structure is characterized by a [A1120 24] U~ framework. Four of the eight six-membered rings of A104-tetrahedra per sodalite cage are centered by Ln3+ ions. The cages of the resulting electrically neutral network are filled with [Pb40 4]±) heterocubane units. Oxygen of the heterocubane units completes the coordination spheres of the rare earth ions to hexagonal bipyramids.

 Abstract    Kupfertyps BaMLn20 5 (M = Zn, Ln = Sm, Tm) und von BaSmAIZn30 7 X -R ay A nalysis of Two C om pounds of the C o p p er Type B aM L n20 5 (M = Z n, Ln = Sm, Tm) and of B aS m A lZ n 30 7 The barium zinc lanthanoide oxides BaZnSm20 5 (I) and BaZnTm20 5 (II) crystallize in the BaCuLn20 3 copper type with orthorhom­ bic symmetry, space group D^-Pnma, (I): a = 12.575(2), b = 5.804(1), c = 7.198(1) A and (II): a = 12.258(2), b = 5.684(1), c = 7.010(2) A, Z = 4. Zinc shows square pyramidal oxygen coordina­ tion, but the strong elongation of the C u 0 5 pyra­ mid in the copper type is missing. BaSmAlZn30 7 crystallizes in the space group C6V -P63mc, a = 6.346(1), c = 10.237(3) Ä, Z = 2. The metal coordi­ nation of oxygen and the shifts of the ratio Al : Zn at the sites (6c) and (2a) depending on the size of the lanthanoid ions are discussed.

 Abstract    Single crystals of Bai3Dy8Zn4Pt40 37 have been prepared by reaction of mixtures of BaC03, ZnO and Dy20 3 at temperatures up to 1225 °C using platinum crucibles. X-ray investigations led to a new crystal structure with tetragonal symmetry, space group C4h-I4/m, a = 18.659(7), c = 5.734(2) A, Z = 2. The structure is characterized by P t0 6 and B a06 octahedra as well as by tetragonal Z n 0 5 pyramids and single capped trigonal prisms of oxygen around dysprosium. The remaining barium positions show coordination numbers of nine and ten. The crystal structure has large ^ [(PtDy40)6)4] polyhedra tunnels. Considering the 1 [Ln4O l6]20_ polyhedra groups some parts of the structure show similarities to BaZnLn20 5, B a ^ n 4Ln8Ö2i and Ba2Ln2ZnPt08.

 Abstract    Single crystals of B a|7D y16Zn8Pt40 57 (I), Ba17HO|6Zn8Pt40 57 (II), BaI7Er16Zn8Pt4057 (III) and Ba17Y 16Zn8Pt40 57 (IV) have been prepared by high temperature reactions using platinum crucibles. X-ray investigations led to tetragonal symmetry, space group C4h -I4/m, (I) -(IV): a = 22.905(1), 22.840(1), 22.795(1), 22.848(1) Ä and c = 5.728(1), 5.722(1), 5.700(1), 5.709(1) A, Z = 2. The crystal structure is characterized by small square, medium-sized quadrangular and large rectangular tunnels, which are filled by oxygen, barium and zinc. The polyhedra network is discussed with respect to the network of compounds of the Ba13D y8Zn4Pt40 37 type.
