 Abstract    Pseudomonas fluorescens Y4 grown in an iron deficient medium produces increased am ounts o f 2,9-di-and 2,3,9-trihydroxyphenazine-l-carboxylic acid when Be2+ is added to the culture. The significance o f the formation o f these com pounds is discussed.

 Abstract    From a strain of Pseudomonas fluorescens pseudobactin and several related compounds were isolated and their structures were elucidated. In this way a reference compound (5) could be obtained for the unambiguous determination of the absolute configuration of C-l of the pyoverdin chromophore in newly isolated representatives of this class.

 Title    Zur Genese der amidisch an den Chromophor von Pyoverdinen gebundenen Dicarbonsäuren |1] On the Genesis of the Dicarboxylic Acids Bound Amidically to the C hrom ophor of the Pyoverdins [1]  
 Abstract    Pseudomonas strains o f the so-called fluorescent group usually produce several pyoverdins which differ only in the nature o f a dicarboxylic acid bound amidically to the chromophor. For the pyoverdins isolated from the culture medium o f Pseudomonas fluorescens 12 it is shown that succinic acid is an artefact formed by hydrolysis o f succinic amide, and that a-ketoglutaric acid is transformed enzymatically to glutamic acid. This process is reversed after the phase o f exponential growth o f the bacteria. The ratio C4-vs. C 5-acids changes with the culture time and with increasing Fe3+ content o f the medium in favor o f the latter.
