 Title    Untersuchungen an Polypseudohalogeniden, II [1] Darstellung und Kristallstruktur des Rubidiumdicyanotriiodids, Rb[I(ICN)2] Preparation and Crystal Structure of Rb[I(ICN)2]  
 Abstract    The new compound Rb[I(ICN)2] can be prepared in aqueous solution by simple addition of two mole equivalents of ICN to one formula unit Rbl. The solid is isotypic with CS[I(ICN)2] and crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pmmn with a = 16.246 A, b = 6.795 A, c = 4.397 A and Z = 2. The crystal structure has been solved from diffracto-meter data and refined to R = 0.035 for 313 observed reflections. The structure may be interpreted as a layer-like package of Rb+ cations and pentahalide-analogous anions [I(ICN2]~. The anionic groups are angular with symmetry mm 2 and y(I-I--I) = 128.69°, 0>(I--I-C) = 175.5°, <p(I-C-N) = 177°, d(I~-I) = 3.271 A, d(I-C) = 2.11 A, d(C-N) = 1.13 A. The cation is surrounded by a distorted cube of iodine atoms with a minimum distance d(Rb-I) = 3.775 Ä. Some additional results on the reactions of alkali halides and halogenocyans in different solvents are mentioned and compared with those described elsewhere.

 Abstract    The new compound K[I(CN) 2 ] can be prepared by addition of one formula unit of iodine to a concentrated aqueous solution of two mole equivalents of potassium cyanide. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2Im with a = 736.4, b = 451.4, c = 908.0 pm.ß = 92.56° and Z = 2. The crystal structure has been refined to R f = 0.020 for 301 observed reflections. The structure may be described as a layer-like package of cations K + and trihalide-analogous anions [I(CN) 2 ]~. The anions are strictly linear at the I atoms (symmetry 2/m) and nearly linear at the C atoms with <p(I-C-N) = 178.6° and d(I-C) = 229.8, d(C-N) = 112.9 pm. The cation is surrounded by a slightly distorted octahedron of nitrogen atoms with d(K---N) = 284.8,292.6 pm.

 Abstract    The new com pound N a[I(C N)2] • 2 H 20 can be prepared by addition o f iodine to a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium cyanide. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P 2,/c with a — 1044.0(2), b — 480.2(2), c = 730.2(2) pm , ß — 95.94(2)° and Z = 2. The crystal structure has been refined to Rf = 0.027 for 692 reflections. The structure may be described as a layer-like package o f cations N a+, water m olecules and trihalide-analogous anions [I(C N)2]~. The anion is strictly linear at the I atom and nearly linear at the C atom s with cp(l—C —N) = 176.2° and d(I —C) = 231.1, d (C —N) = 110.6 pm. The cation is surrounded by a slightly distorted octahedron o f nitrogen and oxygen atoms with d(N a--N) = 263.8, d(N a--O) = 242.0, 242.8 pm.
