Title    Phase Diagram, Caesium-133 NMR Spectra and Electrical Conductivity of the Binary System Caesium and Zinc Butyrates
Abstract    Phase equilibria of non-mesogenic caesium-and zinc-butyrate mixtures were studied by differ-ential thermal analysis and hot stage polarization microscopy. Smectic liquid crystals were found in some composition range. Their appearance is explained by the latent mesomorphism of caesium butyrate. 133 Cs NMR spectra and the specific electrical conductivity of the molten mixtures at 155°C were employed to investigate the peculiarities of ionic association and interaction in the melts.

Abstract    Investigations o f the Ternary System Bi/Te/O, II. The Therm al Behaviour and the R elations o f Phase C oexistences o f B i20 2Te The phase Bi20 2Te exists in the pseudobinary system Bi203/Bi2Te3. The thermal behaviour of Bi2Ö2Te was determined by DTA and X-ray analysis: The phase exists up to 620 °C and decomposes into the solid phases Bi12TeO20, Bi10Te2O 19 [1] and liquid BiTe. The relations of the phase coexistences in the pseudobinary system and in the ternary area Bi20 3/Te02/Bi2Te3/Te were investigated by solid state reactions, chemical transport reactions, and by total pressure measurements.

Title    Phasenbeziehungen und Chemischer Transport der Verbindungen im ternären System Re/Mo/O Phase Relations and Chemical Transport of the Compounds in the Ternary System Re/Mo/O
 Abstract    In the ternary system Re/Mo/O four series of mixed oxides have been prepared by heating of powder samples and by transport reactions. The series are derived from the oxides R e 0 2, M o 0 2, 7 -Mo4O u und //-Mo40 |i and have compositions R e1_ vM ov0 2 (0 < x < 0.37), M o,_> .Re>0 2 (0 < v < 0 .4 2),7 -M o 4_-| Re-| 0 11 (0 < Zj < l),a n d /7-Mo4_.2Re-^Ö |, (0 < z 2 < 1). Contributions to the understanding of the transport mechanism were obtained from thermodynamic calculations. The composition of the mixed crystals obtained have been determined by EPM A and ICP-AES.

Title    Zu den Phasenbeziehungen im System V/Nb/O, IV. Die Festelektrolyt-Coulometrie (FEC) als Methode zur Aufklärung ternärer Zustandsgebiete am Beispiel des Systems V/Nb/O The Phase Relations in the System V/Nb/O, IV. Solid Electrolytic Coulometry (SEC) as a Method to Investigate Ternary Systems: V/Nb/O
Abstract    The observation of reductive decomposition with SEC-current-time-temperature curves on the binary line V20 5-Nb20 5 is a useful method to determine qualitatively and quantitatively ("quasi in situ") the known ternary coexistence regions. By reduction of V 0 2 the Magneli-Phases V/(0 2"_| are generated. The method is generally applicable and allows rapid information by reductive decompositon or oxidative formation in coexistence regions. The conditions of decomposition can be optimized for a given system. Slow solid-gas equi libria are not detectable by this method.

 Title    Zum System Bi20 3 /Bi2Se3/BiCl3,1. Das Zustandsdiagramm Bi20 3/Bi2Se3/BiCl3 On the System Bi20 3 /Bi2Se3/BiCl3,1. The Phase Diagram Bi20 3/B i2Se3/BiCl3
Abstract    The phase relations in the quaternary system Bi/Se/O/Cl have been studied and the existence of several new compounds in the pseudotemary area Bi20 3/Bi2Se3/BiCl3 has been established by solid state and chemical vapour transport reactions. The phase diagram is derived from X-ray powder diffraction and thermal analysisdata, and from measurements of the decomposition pressure behaviour. Three new quaternary phases with different compositions exist in the system: Bi40 4SeCl2, Bi10O 12SeCl4 and Bi220 28SeCl8. By estimation of the thermodynamic data of the quaternary phases it is possible to calculate complex heterogeneous chemical equilibria between all the binary, ternary and quaternary compounds of the phase diagram. As a result, we can describe thermodynamically the observed phase relations and the direction of thermal decomposition of the respective compounds.

Abstract    The pure ternary phases on the line Sm2 0 3 -Se02: Sm2 Sev0 3 +2 V in thermodynamical equilibri um have been synthesizied by solid state reactions and characterized by X-ray powder diffrac tion, IR spectroscopy and DSC measurements. The existence of two new phases Sm2 Se, 5 0 6 and Sm2 Se4 O n was demonstrated besides the known phases Sm2 Se3 5 O 10, Sm2 Se3 0 9 and Sm2 S e0 5. The thermal decomposition properties of all compounds have been determined by total pressure measurements and the thermodynamical data of the compounds have been derived from their decomposition function and Cp-values. The phase diagram and the phase barogram have been estabilished using the results of DSC and total pressure measurements.

Title    Mesophase and Glass Formation in Binary Systems of Caesium and Alkali-Earth Metal Butyrates
Abstract    The phase diagrams of the binary systems of non-mesomorphic components such as caesium-mag-nesium, caesium-calcium and caesium-barium butyrates have been studied by differential thermal analysis and hot stage polarization microscopy. Smectic liquid crystals are found in some composition ranges of the binaries with calcium and barium butyrates. The liquid crystal appearance in these systems is explained by the exhibition of latent mesomorphism of caesium butyrate. Glasses are obtained in all systems studied, the formation of vitreous optical anisotropic mesophase being revealed only for binary from caesium and barium butyrates.

Title    Phosphorus Compounds with the VI B Group Elements
Abstract    The preparation and the properties of phosphorus sulfides and selenides are reviewed. The exact number of phosphorus sulfides and selenides has been determined from the phase diagram. Phosphorus does not react with tellurium. The ternary diagram P-S-Se shows no P-S-Se compounds. The domains of P-S and P-Se glasses has been also deter-mined. IR and mass spectrometry show that phosphorus sulfides and selenides have a tetrahedral arrangement of P atoms close to that of white phosphorus.

Title    Thermodynamische Interpretation der Schmelzdiagramme binärer Systeme aus Methylchlorsilanen und Pyridazin bzw. Pyrazin
Abstract    By analyzing the cooling curves and the resulting melting point diagrams of the chloro-methylsilane-pyridazine and pyrazine systems the existence of the incongruently melting addition compounds CH 3 SiCl 3 • Pyridazine, (CH 3) 2 SiCl 2 • (Pyridazine) 2 , (CH 3) 3 SiCl • (Pyridazine) 2 , CH 3 SiCl 3 • (Pyrazine) 2 , (CH 3) 2 SiCl 2 • (Pyrazine) 2 , (CH 3) 3 SiCl • (Pyrazine) 2 was proved. By electro-optical measurements of the turbidity point it was proved that the system (CH 3) 3 SiCl-Pyridazine exhibits a miscibility gap which intersects the liquidus curve of the amine. Based on certain approximations it was possible to fit thermodynamic functions to the experimental results to obtain the excess data of mixing of the corresponding systems. These data allow for a more profound understanding of the Lewis-acid base behaviour of the silanes and amines. A) Experimentelle Ergebnisse

By analyzing the phase diagrams of methyltrichlorosilane and dimethyldichlorosilane with some lutidines the existence of the incongruently melting addition compounds MeSiCl3-(2.3-Lutidine2 ■ 3.4-Lutidine* Me2SiCl2 • (3.5-Lutidine)2, Me2SiCl2 • 3.5-Lutidine, and the congruently melting compound MeSiCl3-(3.4-Lutidine)2 was proven.
