 Title    On the Crystal Structure of HgZn3  
 Abstract    The crystal structure of the intermetallic phase HgZn3 was determined using X-ray single crystal and powder diffraction methods. The phase belongs to the orthorhombic system, most probable space group being Cmc2i, and appears to be isostructural with /S'-Cu3Ti. Under standard preparative conditions a statistical distribution of both atomic species was observed.

Single crystals of Hg3C r0 6 have been prepared by high pressure techniques (3600 bar oxygen, 600 °C). Hg3C r06 crystallizes with trigonal symmetry, space group D |-P 3 212, a = 7.137(1), c = 10.017(2)Ä, Z -3. Nearly linear O -H g -O dumb-bells are connected in planes, forming strongly puckered nets of six-membered rings. Each Hg60 6 ring is centered by a C r04 tetrahedron; the C r04 tetrahedra are arranged in two equally occupied split positions.

 Abstract    BaHgSnS4 was prepared for the first time and the crystal structure determined by using single crystal X-ray methods, a = 1080,4, b — 1084,o, c — 661,3 pm. Space group: C^-Pnn2 (No. 34) orthorhombic. There are pairs of edge-sharing tetrahedra linked together to form two-dimensional net works. The crystal structure is similar to that of BaCdSnS4 [1].

 Title    Ternäre Gamma-Messing Phasen in den Systemen Calcium-M IB(IIB) -Quecksilber New Ternary Gamma-Brass Phases in the Systems Ca-M iB(nB)_Hg  
 Abstract    A series of new ternary intermetallic com-pounds of the general composition CaißMi8IB(IlB)_Hg18 (M = Zn, Cd, Hg, Cu, Ag and Au) has been identified. The X-ray powder diffraction patterns were indexed on a basis of primitive cubic unit cells. From the X-ray data and density measure-ments it is concluded that these phases belong to the partially disordered (Ml B (HB) and Hg) gamma-brass structure type D83.

 Title    Compounds of Complex Halo and Pseudohalo Acids of the Group IIB Metals, Part V [1] Preparative and Spectroscopic Studies of the [Hg2I5]-, [Hg2I6]2-and [Hg3I8] 2 -Ions  
 Abstract    The preparations of new compounds, containing the complex anions [Hg2ls] -, [Hg2le] 2-and [Hg3I8] 2 -, are reported. Distorted iodine-bridged configurations are proposed for the complexes in the solid state, utilising analyses, X-ray powder patterns, molar conductance measurements and spectral (IR, UV) data.

 Title    He(I) and He(II) Photoelectron Spectra of M[Co(CO)4]2 and M[Mn(CO)5]2 Complexes (M = Zn, Cd, and Hg)  
 Abstract    The He(I) and He(II) photoelectron spectra of M[Co(CO)4]2 and M[Mn(CO)ö]2 complexes (M = Zn, Cd, Hg) are reported. Bands attributable to metal-metal bonds, metal d-levels and CO orbitals are assigned in agreement with a semi-ionic model, i.e. M 2+ and [M'(CO)"] -. Relativistic effects prove to be important in assigning these ultraviolet photoelectron spectra.

 Title    Phenylmercury Chloride: Its Single-Crystal X-Ray Structure and Some Aspects of its Biological Chemistry  
 Abstract    A single crystal of phenylmercury chloride (PhHgCl) was obtained by serendipity from a solution of diphenylmercury (HgPh2) and dihydrolipoic acid in tetrahydrofuran / carbon tetrachloride. The crystal structure of PhHgCl is pseudotetragonal. It is best described in the orthorhombic space group Cmma with a = 6.856(1), b = 6.882(1), c = 14.309(2) A (at 193 K), and Z = 4. The Cl-Hg-C moiety of the PhHgCl moleculeois exactly linear. The bond lengths at the Hg atom are Hg-Cl 2.345(2) and Hg-C 2.044(9) Ä. In the crystal, the molecules are arranged in double layers parallel to the a,b plane. In a model medium for the gastric juice (0.1 M DC1 in D 20 / [Dg]dioxan, 37 °C), HgPh2 reacts to form PhHgCl. HgCl2, which would result from complete dearylation, cannot be isolated from the reaction mixture. However, it appears that a small equilibrium concentration of HgCl2 may be present, because on addition of 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane (ttcn) and diethyl ether, the dichloride can be trapped as solid [Hg(ttcn)2][HgCl4]. We estimate that after oral uptake of HgPh2 20 -90% are transformed into PhHgCl in the stomach after 30 min. In tro d u ctio n

 Abstract    Four ternary sodium phases with the formula Na2BX (B = Cd, Hg; X = Sn, Pb) were prepared and structurally investigated. The structures of the cubic phases Na2HgSn, Na2CdPb and Na2HgPb (space group F43m) are closely related to LiaBi, that of Na2CdSn (space group P63mmc) to the hexagonal structure of NaßAs.

 Title    Compounds of Complex Halo and Pseudohalo Acids of the Group II B Metals, Part HI [1] Spectral Studies of the Hglä Ion  
 Abstract    A study has been made of the Far-IR spectra (250-30 cm -1) of the complexes HHgl3 • 2 Py and HHgl3 • 2 An (Py = pyridine and An = aniline), in the solid state. Associated anionic structures are present in the two complexes. The UV spectrum of the aniline complex, in three solvents, shows that the Hgl3~ ion is the predominant anionic species in solution.

 Title    Synthese und Kristallstrukturen der spirocyclischen Polyselenido-Komplexe [Na-15-Krone-5] 2 [M(Se 4 ) 2 ] mit M = Zink, Cadmium und Quecksilber Sythesis and Crystal Structures of the Spirocyclic Polyselenido Complexes [Na-15-Crown-5] 2 [M(Se 4 ) 2 ] with M = Zink, Cadmium, and Mercury  
 Abstract    The title compounds have been prepared by reactions of the metal acetates of zink, cadmium, and mercury with ethanolic solutions of sodium polyselenides in the presence of 15-crown-5. They form dark red crystals, which were characterized by their IR specta as well as by X-ray crystal structure determinations. All complexes [Na-15-crown-5] 2 [M(Se 4) 2 ] with M = Zn (1), Cd (2), Hg (3) crystallize isotypically in the space group C2/c with 4 formula units per unit cell. In the anions [M(Se 4) 2 ] 2 ^ the metal atoms are coordinated tetrahedrally by four selenium atoms of two Se 4 2 ~ units, thus forming a spiro-bicyclus. The complex cations [Na-15-crown-5] + have a Na---Se contact of approximately 299 pm with two selenium atoms of a MSe 4 group, allowing formulation of triple ion species.
