 Title    Zur Kenntnis eines synthetischen Kentrolits/Melanotekits des Indiums: On an Synthetic Kentrolite/Melanotekite of Indium: Pb2In2Si20 9  
 Abstract    Single crystals of Pb2In2Si20 9 have been prepared by crystallisation from melts of Pb(N 03)2, ln20 3 and S i0 2. The compound crystallizes with orthorhombic symmetry, space group C2v-Pna2| with the lattice constants a = 10.529(1),/?= 11.372(1) and c = 7.019(3) A, Z = 4. Despite the fact that the Kentrolite/Melanotekite structure is characterized by dissimilar occupied split positions of lead, Pb2In2Si20 9 shows completely filled and ordered point positions. The location of a dot like lone pair of Pb~+ is estimated by Coulomb term calculations of lattice energy. The results are discussed with respect to published Pb-lone pair distances using the electronic polarizability coefficient of the lone pair cation or simple geometrical considerations.

 Abstract    Single crystals of (Mn2.4Cu0 6)Te06 (I), Ba2MnTe06 (II) and Pb(Mn0 5Te0 5) 0 3 (III) have been prepared by crystallization from fluxes. X-ray investigations led to rhombohedric sym­ metry (I): R3, (II): R3m with the trigonal lattice constants (I): a = 8.826(1), c = 10.687(2) Ä, Z = 2. (II): a = 5.817(8), c = 14.244(3) A, Z = 3. Compound (III) crystallizes with cubic symmetry P43m, a = 4.045(3) A, Z = 1. (I) is the first example of a manganese(II) tellurate and belongs to the structure type of A3X 0 6 compounds like (Mn2In)Sb06, Mn3W 0 6 and Ca3U 0 6. (II) exemplifies an ordered and (III) a disordered variation of the perovskites.

 Abstract    Single crystals of Pb2T e0 5 have been prepared by flux techniques. X-ray investigations showed a new crystal structure with monoclinic symmetry, space group Cj-Cc, a = 13.099(3), b = 5.714(1), c = 7.520(2) Ä, ß = 123,80(3)°, Z = 4. Pb2T e 0 5 is characterized by o[o[Te05] chains of octahedra isolated from each other and incorporated into an edge, corner and face connected frame of P b 0 7 polyhedra. Possible positions o f the lone pair o f electrons of Pb2+ are estimated by calculations of Coulomb terms of lattice energy.

 Title    The Electron Momentum Distribution in Lead  
 Abstract    Directional Compton profiles have been measured along the [100], [110] and [111] crystallo-graphic axes in lead using 412 and 59.5 keV y-radiation from 98 Au and Am radioisotope sources, respectively. Both measurements are in mutual agreement and show a small anisotropy, which is just distinguishable within the statistical error. The spherically averaged data have been compared with the predictions of relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) and non-relativistic Hartree-Fock (HF) free atom calculations. As expected, the experiment clearly favours the RHF rather than the HF calculation.

 Abstract    Single crystals of C dC u^M gx.5Pbo.5V30 12 have been prepared in closed steel tubes using V 20 5 as a flux. The orange crystals show monoclinic symmetry, space group C2h-C 2 /c , a = 12.417(5), b = 12.983(6), c = 6.911(3) Ä , ß = 113.02(1)°, Z = 4. CdCu1.5Mg1.5PbojV30 12 reveals a relationship to the Johillerite type, but it is characterized by an additional point position for cadmium, situated betw een the square planar C u 0 4 polygons of the Johillerite structure.

X-ray investigation led to the space group (I): S4 -P4 (Nr. 81) with a = 715.4(1), c = 976.2(3) pm, Z = 1 and (II): C | -P3, (Nr. 144) with a = 712.2(1), c = 693.5(2) pm, Z = 3. While (II) is isotypic to the Stillwellite structure, Pb^(As04)[B(As04)4] represents a completely novel type of crystal structure. Boron and arsenic are tetrahedrally coordinated by oxygen. These polyhedra form two kinds of isolated anions: A s04'~ and B(A s04)49_. Lead is eightfold coordinated by oxygen.

M üller-B uschbaum * PbCu3T e07 has been prepared from the element oxides by solid state reaction in air. Single crystal X-ray work led too orthorhombic symmetry, space group D^-Pnma, a = 10.488(1), b = 6.353(2), c = 8.813(2) A, Z = 4. Cu(1)0 5 square pyramids and Te06 octahedra are members of the anionic part of the crystal structure, Cu(2) atoms show tetrahedral coordination by oxygen. The C u (2)2+ and the Pb2+ cations are incorporated into a [Cu(l)2Te07] network. PbCu,Te07 can thus be viewed as a lead copper oxocuprate(II) tellurate. Calculations of the Coulomb terms of lattice energy reveal two possible positions for the lone pair of electrons at Pb'+.

 Abstract    Pb3Fe2Te20 |2 (I) and Pb2C oT e06 (II) have been prepared by crystallization from melts. Single crystal X-ray investigations led to monoclinic (I) and tetragonal (II) symmetry, space groups Cs-Cc and D{J-I4/mmm. Lattice constants I: a = 9.866(3), b = 15.332(4), c = 7.172(2) A, ß = 111.34(3)°, Z = 4. II: a = 5.661(5), c = 8.004(7) A, Z = 2. (I) represents a new crystal structure, characterized by a network of octahedra occupied by Fe + and Te6+ in a disordered manner. The centres of negative charge of the lone pairs of Pb2+ in I are estimated by Coulomb term calculations. II belongs to the elpasolithe type.

 Abstract    Single crystals of Ln4[A lI20 24](Pb40 4)2 (Ln = Nd, Sm) have been prepared by flux techni­ ques. The compounds crystallize with cubic symmetry, space group Oh-Pn3m, a ^ = 9.514(1), asm = 9.481(1) A, Z = 1. The crystal structure is characterized by a [A1120 24] U~ framework. Four of the eight six-membered rings of A104-tetrahedra per sodalite cage are centered by Ln3+ ions. The cages of the resulting electrically neutral network are filled with [Pb40 4]±) heterocubane units. Oxygen of the heterocubane units completes the coordination spheres of the rare earth ions to hexagonal bipyramids.

 Title    N-Boryl-Substituted Bis(amino)stannylenes and -plumbylenes  
 Abstract    Two equivalents of N-lithio-N-trimethylsilyl-amino-9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (1) react with tin and lead dichloride by salt elimination to give the corresponding bis(amino)stannylene 2 and -plumbylene 3, respectively. The compounds 2 and 3 are monomers in solution and were characterized by 'H , i3C, 14N, 29Si, ll9Sn and 207Pb NMR spectroscopy.

 Title    Reactivity and NMR Spectroscopic Properties of Tri(terf-butyl)plumbyl-amine  
 Abstract    Tri(rm-butyl)plumbyl-amine 1 was prepared and studied by one-(ID) and two-dimensional (2D) 'H, i3C, 5N and 207Pb NMR which allowed determination of the coupling signs /(Pb,13C) (> 0), 2y(207P b,'3C) (> 0), '7(207Pb,15N) (> 0; reduced coupling constant 1 A^(207Pb,I5N) < 0) and 27(207Pb-N-'H) (< 0). Transamination of 1 with aniline and pyrazole afforded the corresponding aniline (2) and pyrazole derivatives (3), respectively. N-Lithiation of 1, followed by treatment with Me3SiCl gave the tri(rm-butyl)plumbyl-trimethylsilyl-amine 5. The multinuclear magnetic resonance data of 2, 3 and 5 are presented. Trimethylplumbyl-phenyl-amine and trimethylplumbyl-ter/-butyl(dimethyl)silyl-amine were prepared and their NMR data were measured for comparison.

 Abstract    Single crystals of the new lead zinc silicon tellurium oxide PbZn4SiTeO10 have been prepared by solid state reaction in air. The compound is colourless and crystallizes in orthorhombic symmetryj space group Dih Pnma, with the cell parameters: a = 6.542 (5), b = 15.624(4), c = 8.280(4) A, Z = 4. The structure has been determined from a single crystal X-ray study and refined to the conventional values R = 0.032 and wR(F2) = 0.050. Zn~+ and Si4+ show tetrahedral and Te6+ octahedral coordination by 0 2~.The crystal structure is dominated by a ^ [Zn4O l0]12-framework with isolated Te066+ and Si044+ polyhedra. Pb2+ ions are incorporated in the network. The centres of negative charge of the lone of the Coulomb term of the lattice energy.

 Title    Relationship between Changes in Ion Content of Leaves and Chlorophyll-Protein Composition in Cucumber under Cd and Pb Stress  
 Abstract    Hydroponically cultured cucumber plants supplied with 4 |.im Fe chelated either with E D T A or citrate and treated with Cd (10 jim) and Pb (10, 50 jam) from their one-or four-leaf stage were grown up to five-week-old age. The decrease in the chlorophyll content was the most pronounced in plants treated with Cd from a younger age, and in the case of Fe-citrate. The chlorophyll a/b ratio of Cd stressed plants was also significantly lowered. In later treated plants the accumulation of chlorophyll was inhibited and the chlorophyll a/b ratio decreased only in the vigorously growing young leaves. Pb treatm ent had only a slight effect on both parameters. The changes in the chlorophyll-protein pattern of thylakoids were strongly related to their chlorophyll content but the response of each complex was different. Cd reduced the amount of chlorophyll containing complexes in the order of photosystem I > light-harvesting complex II > photosystem Il-core, while light-harvesting complex II ap­ peared somewhat more sensitive than photosystem I in Pb treated plants. In accordance, a decline or blue shift of the long wavelength fluorescence emission band of chloroplasts was observed referring to disturbances also in photosystem I antenna assembly. The accumulation of chlorophyll and chlorophyll-proteins did not show close relationship to the heavy metal content of leaves which was the highest in the first of the intensively expanding leaves in the time of the treatm ent. The extraordinary sensitivity of photosystem I, and the relative sta­ bility of photosystem II under Cd treatm ent were similar to the case found in iron deficient plants. However, the pattern of chlorophyll content of leaf storeys of Cd treated plants rather followed the changes in their Mn content.

 Title    Responses of the Lichen Cladonia convoluta to High C 0 2 Level and Heavy Metal Treatment  
 Abstract    Despite of the downward acclimation of photosynthesis in C. convoluta, increased net photosynthesis and carbon balance can be anticipated in response to elevated atmospheric C 0 2 level. C 0 2 exchange measurement seems to be m ore indicative when detecting heavy metal stress than fluorescence parameters. Among these, the relative fluorescence decrease ratio (R F d 690) shows damage first, suggesting that the primary attack site for heavy metal ions is C 0 2 fixation and reaction centres are harmed last. Long-term elevated C 0 2 amelio­ rates partly this damage by improving C-balance to a greater extent in the heavy-metal stressed lichens.

 Abstract    Four ternary sodium phases with the formula Na2BX (B = Cd, Hg; X = Sn, Pb) were prepared and structurally investigated. The structures of the cubic phases Na2HgSn, Na2CdPb and Na2HgPb (space group F43m) are closely related to LiaBi, that of Na2CdSn (space group P63mmc) to the hexagonal structure of NaßAs.
