 Title    Induced Isoflavonoids from Fungus-Infected Stems of Pigeon Pea ( Cajanus cajan)  
 Abstract    Four antifungal isoflavones [7-hydroxy-4'-methoxy-(l) ; 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-(2) ; 5,7,2',4'-tetra-hydroxy-(3) ; 5,2',4'-trihydroxy-7-methoxy-(4) ] and one isoflavanone [ (5,2'-dihydroxy-7,4'-dimeth-oxy-(7)] have been isolated from the fungus-infected stems of C ajanus cajan . A sixth compound has been provisionally identified as 5,2'-dihydroxy-7,4'-dimethoxyisoflavone (5). The structure of 5,2'-dihydroxy-7,4'-dimethoxyisoflavanone (cajanol) was confirmed by synthesis from ferreirin (S^^'-trihydroxy^'-methoxyisoflavanone).

 Title    Further Isoflavonoids from White Lupin Roots  
 Abstract    Further investigation o f the isoflavonoids in white lupin roots has revealed a new coum a­ ronochromone with a 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-3-butenyl side chain (lupinalbin G), three new pyrano-isoflavones (lupinisoflavones K and L, and allolicoisoflavone B) and two new di-hydrofurano-isoflavones each with a 2,3-dihydroxy-3-m ethylbutyl substituent (lupinisofla­ vones M and N). The biogenetic pathways for these and other lupin isoflavones are briefly discussed.

 Title    Isoflavone Dimers from Yeast Extract-Treated Cell Suspension Cultures of Pueraria lobata  
 Abstract    Tw o new isoflavone dimers, kudzuisoflavone A and B have been isolated from yeast extract-treated cell suspension cultures o f Pueraria lobata (Leguminosae). Their structures were char­ acterized by spectral data, and they were considered to be formed by phenol oxidative coupling o f two isoflavone moieties through C —C ortho-ortho and ortho-para couplings, respectively.

 Title    Degradation of the Isoflavone Biochanin A by Fusarium javanicum  
 Abstract    After a lag-phase of 1 h a mycelial suspension of Fusarium javanicum completely degraded 5,7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone (biochanin A) to a series o f transiently accumulating catabolites. The compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques and are arranged in the first known degradative pathway for an isoflavone: biochanin A -* dihydrobiochanin A -* 3-(/?-methoxyphenyl)-4,6-diketo-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyran -* />-methoxyphenylacetic acid -*■ p-hy-droxyphenylacetic acid -*■ 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid -*■ C 0 2. The carbon atoms o f bio­ chanin A not accounted for by this sequence are discussed in relation to microbial flavonoid pathways.
