 Title    Two Modifications of Tetraethylammonium tranis-Diiodobis(ethanedialdioximato)cobaltate(III) with and without Intermolecular 1--I Interactions  
 Abstract    The structures of two modifications of [C 8 H 2 nN][C4H 6 Col2N 4 04], M r -617.11, have been deter-mined by X-rav investigations. Form 1 is orthorhombic, Pben, a = 8.417(2), b — 12.923(3), c = 18.444(3) A, V = 2006 Ä 3 , Z = 4, d c = 2.04 gem" 3 , final R w = 0.037 for 1989 reflections and 124 parameters. There are no unusual intermolecular interactions in this modification. From 2 is tetragonal, \A x md, a = 8.886(3), c = 25.841(6) Ä, V = 2040 Ä 3 , Z = 4, d c = 2.01 gem" 3 , final R w = 0.027 for 1629 reflections and 80 parameters. In this modification the metal complexes form strictly linear chains via short intermolecular I -I contacts, 3.722(1) Ä.

 Title    The Isomorphous Structures of Ammonium fni/is-Diiodobis(ethanedial-dioximato- (1 -)-N,N')cobaItate(III) and Ammonium fra/fs-Diiodobis(ethanedial-dioximato- (1 -)-N,N')rhodate(III): Extended Metaloximate Chains with a Novel —I-M -I—I-M -I— Zigzagged Structure  
 Abstract    The ammonium salts o f the complex anions mm s-diiodobis(ethanedial-dioxim ato)-cobaltate(III), [CoI2(G H)2]~, and rra«s-diiodobis(ethanedial-dioximato)rhodate(III), [RhI2(G H)2]' (GH~ = ethanedial dioximate or glyoximate), have been synthesized and their structures determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data at room temperature. The crystals o f the two salts are monoclinic, space group C 2/c. N H 4[C oI2(G H)2] (I) crystallizes as dark-brown prisms with a greenish reflectance; its crystal data are: C4H)0CoI-,N5O4, M r = 504.90; a = 8.910(6), b = 11.700(9), c = 11.691(6) Ä; ß = 93.55(5)°; V = 1216.4 Ä 3; Z = 4; Dc = 2.78 M g m "3. N H 4[R hI,(G H),] (II) crystallizes as yellow-brown blocks with crystal data: C4H 10I2N 5O4Rh, M r = 548.88; a = 9.038(4), b = 11.949(5), c = 11.770(3) Ä; ß = 95.54(3)°; V = 1265.16 A 3; Z = 4; D c = 2.87 Mg m -3. The two structures were refined to a final Rv = 0.045 for 1209 observed independent reflections and 95 parameters for I, and to a final R" = 0.040 for 1922 observed independent reflections and 87 parameters for II. The coordination geometry around Co or Rh in the anionic complexes is a distorted (4 + 2) octahedron o f four equatorial chelating N atom s and two apical iodides. The H atom s o f the hydroxyl groups are involved, as usual, in intramolecular O -H -O bridges with uniform 0 --0 separations o f 2.582 A for I, and 2.713 A for II. The rectilinear I -C o -I or I -R h — I triads form "infinite" zigzag chains extending parallel to the ab plane, with a weak I--I contact o f 3.988 Ä for I, and 4.010 A for II.
