 Title    Carnivora: The Primary Structures of Adult Lion (Panthern leo) Hemoglobins  
 Abstract    Complete amino acid sequences of lion (Panthera leo) hemoglobins are reported. Polyacryl­ amide gel disc electrophoresis at pH 8.3 and also in the presence of 8 M urea and Triton-X100, RP-HPLC, liquid and gas phase amino acid sequenator. and FAB Mass spectrometer are used. Sequences are aligned with human hemoglobin (Hb A) and compared with other hemoglobins of felidae.

 Title    Photolyse von elementarem Schwefel (S 6 , S 7 , S 8 , S 10 , S 12 ) in Kohlenstoffdisulfidlösung [1]  
 Abstract    The photochemical decomposition of pure carbondisulfide as well as of solutions of pure S 6 , S 7 , S 8 , S I0 and S 12 , respectively, in CS 2 at 15 °C on irradiation by a high-pressure mercury lamp (200-600 nm) has been studied by quantitative HPLC analysis of the soluble products. In all cases mixtures of sulfur homocycles S" (n = 5,6, ...) are formed with S 8 , S 7 and S 6 being the dominating species, but traces of S 5 , S 9 , S 10 and S 12 have also been observed in most cases. S 5 has been identified for the first time; it is formed in particular in the photolysis of S 7 in CS 2 . All irradiated sulfur solutions reach more or less the same photostationary equilibrium, but the decomposition of CS 2 increases linearly with time and its effects are superimposed on the S" interconversion reactions.

 Title    Darstellung von Cyclopentadekaschwefel (S 15 ) aus Titanocenpentasulfid und Sulfurylchlorid [1] Synthesis of Cyclopentadecasulfur (S 15 ) from Titanocene Pentasulfide and Sulfuryl Chloride [1]  
 Abstract    Titanocene pentasulfide reacts with sulfuryl chloride under suitable conditions to give a mixture of mainly S 10 , S 15 , and S 2 n which can be separated by repeated crystallization and precipitation. Pure S, 5 is obtained as a lemon-yellow powder at low temperatures which transforms to a sticky mass at 20 °C. Solutions of S 15 in CS 2 are stable at 20 °C for months. Pure S 15 does not decompose at 20 °C within a few hours. Raman spectra of S 15 show stretching vibrations at 409—480 cm" 1 and bending and torsional modes at < 270 cm H .

 Title    Nachweis von Se6, Se7 und Se8 in Lösungen yon Selen mittels Hochdruckflüssigkeitschromatographie Detection, of See, Se7 and Ses in Selenium Solutions by High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography  
 Abstract    Dissolution of crystalline Ses or extraction of glassy or red amorphous selenium, prepared from aqueous Se02 by reduction, by organic solvents yields solutions containing Se6, Se7 and Ses in equilibrium as shown by HPLC. The equilibrium explains the concen-tration dependence of the molar absorbance of such solutions observed earlier. Since the Raman spectrum of red amorphous selenium does not show any lines due to See, Se7 and Ses, a rapid interconversion of selenium molecules in solution at 20 °C is postulated. Red amorphous selenium may consist of a mixture of small and medium sized ring molecules.

 Abstract    The Separation of a number of cyclic methylene sulfides and selenides by reversed-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography is reported. The retention times as well as the capacity factors depend in a systematic way on the ring size, the number and kind of chalcogen atoms, and the number of heteronuclear bonds within the ring. These relation-ships are used to assign the chromatograms of cyclic selenium sulfides of type SeraS8-n (n = 1-8) prepared in a new reaction from Se2Cl2, SC12 and potassium iodide and containing all selenium atoms in neighboring positions.

 Title    The Retention of Six-, Seven-, Eight-, and Twelve-Membered Ring Molecules of Type SexS v in Reversed-Phase HPLC. Prediction of Retention for Unknown Se^S^. Heterocycles and Analysis of Sulfur-Selenium Melts [1]  
 Abstract    The HPLC retention times o f 25 cyclic com pounds o f type SevSv (x = 0 8; y = 0 12) have been measured under identical conditions and are used to evaluate the factors which determine the retention. Linear relationships are derived for the dependence o f retention (Ink'-, k' = capacity factor) on ring size, number o f Se atoms, and number o f SeS bonds per molecule for six-, seven-, eight-, and twelve-membered SevSv rings. These relationships allow the prediction o f retention times for all SeY S t. heterocycles o f these ring sizes (ca. 100 com pounds). The results are applied to the qualitative analysis o f mixed sulfur-selenium melts o f two com positions: at a molar ratio o f S : Se = 8.7 twenty-one HPLC signals have been observed for the CS2 extract o f the quenched melt and assigned to SevSv rings o f sizes 6 • • • 12. At S :S e = 0.33 mainly six-, seven-, and eight-membered species with cumulated Se atom s have been found.
