Title    Gaschromatographisch-massenspektrometrische Analyse neutraler und saurer Oligosaccharide der Frauenmilch als Trimethylsilyläther * Gas Chromatographic Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Neutral and Acid Oligo saccharides from Human Milk as Their Trimethylsilyl Derivatives
Abstract    Gas chromatography and the 20 eV mass spectra of the human milk oligosaccharides fucosido-galactose, fucosido-lactose, di-fucosido-lactose, 3'-N-acetylneuraminyl-lactose, 6'-N-acetylneuraminyl-lactose and of N-acetyllactosamine as pertrimethylsilyl (TMS) ethers are described. The gas chromatographic separation of the L-fucose containing oligosaccharides was performed on Silicone SE 30. The sialic acid containing sugars were separated on DEXSIL 300. The correlations between oligosaccharide structures and mass spectrometric fragmentation pat terns are discussed.

Title    Coupled Gas Chromatography — Single Cell Recording: a New Technique for Use in the Analysis of Insect Pheromones
Abstract    A method is described for the continuous biological monitoring of the effluent from a high resolution gas chromatographic column using a single cell recording technique. The system can be used to provide precise information on the retention times of compounds with olfactory activity that are not detected with a coupled gas chromatograph -electroantennogram system.

Title    Volatile Sulfur Compounds Produced by Methionine Degrading Bacteria and the Relationship to Concrete Corrosion
Abstract    Pseudomonasßuorescens, Proteus vulgaris, and Serratia marcescens, members o f the microflora o f soil and waste water, attacked methionine in the presence o f glucose. The sulfur o f m ethionine was released as methane thiol, dimethyl sulfide and dim ethyl disulfide. The volatile sulfur com pounds were qualitatively and quantitatively investigated by gas chromatography. Dim ethyl disulfide was formed o f methane thiol by various bacteria to a different extent. G row ing in the presence o f oxygen, S. marcescens oxidized most o f the m ethane thiol to dim ethyl disulfide. In the presence o f glucose. P. fluorescens dissim ilated m ethionine with production o f m ethane thiol and dimethyl disulfide. The dissim ilation was stim ulated with decreasing glucose concentration.

Title    Studien über Wespengift, I Niedermolekulare Bestandteile des Giftblasenextraktes von Paravespula vulgaris Studies on Wasp Venom, I Low Molecular Weight Constituents of Venom Sac Extracts from Paravespula vulgaris
Abstract    Low molecular weight constituents of 3400 venom sacs of Paravespula vulgaris were extracted with water, diluted acetic acid, and methanol. After conversion to volatile derivatives carbohydrates, amino acids, fatty acids, other constituents of phospho lipids, and biogenic amines were identified by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Quantitative analysis was achieved for amino acids by amino acid analysis and for glucose by an enzymatic assay. Results are discussed with regard to biosynthesis of wasp toxins and phylogenetic aspects of hymenopteran venoms.

Title    Cuticular Hydrocarbons of the Colorado Beetle Leptinötarsa decemlineata say
Abstract    The cuticular hydrocarbons o f the C olorado beetle Leptinotarsa decemlineata say consist of 2-m ethylalkanes, internally branched m onom ethylalkanes, dim ethyl-, trimethyl-and tetramethyl-alkanes. The hydrocarbons differ from those o f m ost o f the other insects so far investigated. The major com ponents were found to be the dim ethyl branched alkanes, 2,6-and/or 7,22-dimethyl-octacosane and the tetram ethylalkane, 3,10,16,23-tetram ethyltritriacontane. The hydrocarbons identified are m embers o f hom ologous series which differ by two m ethylene groups. The identifi cation of hydrocarbons was achieved by mass spectrom etry and gas chromatographic determ ina tion o f Kovats retention indices on two high efficiency capillary colum ns coated with D exsil 300 and O V-1.

Title    eine gaschromatographisch-massenspektrometrische Analyse The Branched Chain Fatty Acids of Staphylococcus aureus, a Gas Chromato- graphic-Mass Spectrometric Analysis
Abstract    The fatty acid methylesters prepared by transesterification of the total lipid extract of Staphylo-coccus aureus Wood 46 were analysed by gas chromatography on thin film capillaries coated with polyphenylether (OS 138), siliconerubber (SE 30) and S.C.O.T. columns coated with Diethylene-glycoladipatepolyester (DEGA) in combination with mass spectrometry. Among the branched chain fatty acids ranging from Clt — C21, the iso-and anteiso-C15 acids are predominant. In the group of the C^ and C17 acids branching in position 9 and 10 was also found. No unsaturated branched chain fatty acids could be detected. Retention data and mass spectra of the branched chain fatty acids are presented. Die Neutrallipide, Phospholipide und Glycero-glykolipide der Staphylococcen enthalten einen gro-ßen Anteil verzweigter Fettsäuren, bei denen wo-und a/itewo-Fettsäuren vorherrschen 2 .
