 Title    Antidorcas marsupialis  
 Abstract    Acyclic terpenoid compounds, aldehydes, ketones, hy­ droxy esters, and dimethyl sulphone were identified in the dorsal exudate of the antelope Antidorcas marsupialis. The novel diterpenes a-and /?-springene, found in this exudate, were synthesised from famesyl acetone.

 Abstract    A series o f straight chain ketones, saturated, unsatu­ rated, and doubly unsaturated alcohols, saturated and unsaturated formiates, hexanal, formic acid, and a number of long chain fatty acids have been identified in the pre­ orbital secretion of the grysbok, Raphicerus melanotis.

 Title    Species and Sex Specificity in the Odour Composition of Two Panurgine Bees (Hymenoptera, Andrenidae)  
 Abstract    From the volatile constituents of the solitary bee species Panurgus banksianus Kirby and P. calcaratus Scopuli 31 com pounds could be identified. Ih e cephalic secretion of P. banksianus is a sex specific m ulticom ponent mixture of terpenes and aliphatic carboxylic acid esters while P. cal-caratus contains m onoterpenes only. The m ajor com ponent in the D ufour's gland secretion of P. banksianus is a mac-rocyclic lactone, eicosanolide, which is absent in P. cal-caratus. In contrast, the new terpenoid ester, geranyl cit-ronellate, is present in large amounts in the D ufour's gland secretion of P. calcaratus.

 Title    Is Isoprene Emitted by Plants Synthesized via the Novel Isopentenyl Pyrophosphate Pathway?  
 Abstract    The incorporation of deuterium labeled 1-deoxy-D-xylulose into isoprene, emitted by three higher plants upon illumination, was analysed by headspace GC-MS. A high extent of incor­ poration into isoprene was found, indicating that isoprene is synthesized in higher plants via the novel isopentenyl pyrophosphate pathway, of which l-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate is an intermediate. A new chemical synthesis o f methyl [ l-2H 1]-l-deoxy-a/ß-D-xyluloside from D-xylulose is presented.
