| Degradation of 3,9-Dimethoxypterocarpan and Medicarpin by Fusarium proliferatum | | | Abstract
| The degradation o f 3,9-dimethoxypterocarpan was investigated in selected strains of Fusarium. Fusarium proliferatum (/'. e. Gibberella fujikuroi (SAW)WR) degrades this substrate via 3-meth-oxy-9-hydroxypterocarpan, 3,9-dihydroxypterocarpan and 2',4',7-trihydroxyisoflavan. During degradation by this organism medicarpin is first demethylated to 3,9-dihydroxypterocarpan. | | |

| Demethylation, Methylation and 3'-Hydroxylation of Isoflavones bv Fusarium Fungi | | | Abstract
| Several introductionary reactions of isoflavone metabolism by Fusarium fungi are reported. Fu sarium avenaceum hydroxylates formononetin in the 3'-position yielding 3',7-dihydroxy-4'-me-thoxyisoflavone (calycosin). 3'-Hydroxylation o f biochanin A to 3/,5,7-trihydroxy-4/-methoxyiso-flavone (pratensein) has been observed with Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. I ini. Depending on the growth medium Fusarium proliferatum metabolises for mononetin either by 7-O-methylation or by 4'-0-demethylation. | | |

| Biosynthesis of Trichothecene My cotoxins in Fusarium culmorum Cultures | | | Abstract
| A high yielding production of the trichothecene mycotoxin 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol (3-AcDON) in cultures of Fusarium culmorum is described. By supplying [14C]acetate, 14C-labelled 3-AcDON suitable for further metabolic studies has been obtained. The pattern of labelling has been ascertained by using 13C-labelled acetate precursors, and is in line with established biosynthetic data. A second trichothecene produced in significant amounts by F. culmorum has been identified as 3a, 15-diacetoxy-7a, 8a-dihydroxy-12, 13-epoxytrichothec-9-ene (7a, 8 a-dihydroxycalonec-trin). | | |

| Metabolie Conversions of Trichothecene Mycotoxins: Biotransformation of 3-AcetyldeoxynivaIenoI into Fusarenon-X | | | Abstract
| The trichothecene mycotoxin 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol was transformed by cultures of the diace-toxyscirpenol producer Fusarium sp. strain C37410-90 into four compounds, identified as deoxy-nivalenol, 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol, 3,15-diacetyldeoxynivalenol and fusarenon-X. The major transformations are the result of specific esterification and de-esterification processes, but the production of fusarenon-X involves in addition a novel 4ß-hydroxylation of the trichothecene ring system itself. | | |
