| An EPR Investigation of Cr 3+ and Ni 2 + in Synthetic Pyrite Crystals | | | Abstract
| In many synthetic pyrite single crystals of high quality and purity we could detect Cr 3 + and Ni 2 + by EPR at 78 K as unwanted impurities. The assignment was possible by means of the isotopes Cr 53 and Ni 61 , occurring in natural abundance. The paramagnetic centers exhibit unusual g-values. In case of Ni 2+ a ligand hyperfine interaction could be observed beside the normal hyperfine interaction with the Ni 61 nucleus. For some crystals the Cr 3+ signal intensity could be increased up to ten times by temperature increasement from 78 K to about 100 K. At 78 K the Cr 3+ intensity was quenched by IR irradiation. | | |

| Dynamic Nuclear Polarization Studies of TANOL/water-glycerol Solutions | | | Abstract
| Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) studies of TANOL/water-glycerol solutions were per-formed at 1.53 mT. The samples have either various water-glycerol ratios at constant concen-tration or various concentrations at a constant water-glycerol ratio. The low field EPR spectra were recorded, the DNP parameters(enhancement factors, coupling constant, leakage factor) were determined, electronic relaxation times were measured. Depending on the values obtained, the interactions between nuclei and electrons are discussed. | | |

| Locality or Non-Locality in Quantum Mechanics: Hidden Variables without "Spooky Action-at-a-Distance" | | | Abstract
| The folklore notion o f the "Non-Locality o f Quantum Mechanics" is examined from the point of view o f hidden-variables theories according to Belinfante's classification in his Survey o f Hidden Variables Theories. It is here shown that in the case o f EPR, there exist hidden variables theories that successfully reproduce quantum-mechanical predictions, but which are explicitly local. Since such theories do not fall into Belinfante's classification, we propose an expanded classification which includes similar theories, which we term as theories o f the "third" kind. Causal implications of such theories are explored. -Pacs: 03.65.Bz | | |

| Über Galvinole und Galvinoxyle, II EPR-HFS-und elektronen-spektroskopische Untersuchung On Galvinols and Galvinoxyls, II EPR and Electronic Absorption Spectra of Oligo Galvinoxyl Radicals in Solution | | | Abstract
| The synthesis of several so far unknown mono-and oligo-galvinols and galvinoxyls is described. The ESR hyperfine splitting measurements in liquid solution indicate that the spin exchange frequency is greater than the hyperfine splitting in the galvinoxyl biradicals (J^>a). The electronic absorption spectra of the galvinols and galvinoxyls are discussed taking into account the different prototropic and redox equilibria, respectively. Using magnetic susceptibility measurements the singlet-triplet and doublet-quartet splitting is studied. | | |

| Vierzähnige Benzamidin-Liganden in ein-und mehrkemigen Kupfer(II)-Komplexen Quadridentate Benzamidine Ligands in Mono-and Oligonuclear Copper(II) Complexes | | | Abstract
| Bridged N-thiocarbamoyl substituted bis-benzamidines (C2H5)2N-C(S)-N=C(Ph)-NH-R-NH-C(Ph)=N-C(S)-N(C2H5)2 with different moieties R (H2L : R = diphenylmethane-2,2'-diyl, H2 L2: R = diphenylmethane-3,3'-diyl, and H2 L3: R = diphenylmethane-4,4'-diyl) were synthe sized by the reaction of N-(thiocarbamoyl)benzimidoyl chlorides with diamines. These quadri dentate ligands form neutral mononuclear (CuL1), dinuclear (Cu2L32) and trinuclear (Cu3 L2 3) copper(II) chelates in dependence of the different bridging unit in the ligands. The compounds were characterized by NMR, IR, EPR and XPS spectroscopy and FAB mass spectrometry. The molecular structures of the ligand H2L3 and the complex CuL1 have been determined by X-ray methods. | | |

| n v e s tig a tio n o f S y n th e tic , D o p e d F e S 2 a n d R u S 2 S in g le C r y s ta ls . Synthetic FeS2 and RuS2 single crystals were prepared by the flux method using PbCl2, bismut, and tellurium as different solvents. FeS2 and some RuS2 samples were doped with elementary vanadium, other RuS2 crystals with manganese and nickel. The EPR spectra revealed Mn2+ in the low-spin state and Ni2+. The lineshape of the Mn sextet turned out to be asymmetrical. In some RuS2 samples we detected an isotropic structureless rather narrow signal with a linewidth down to 0.05 mT and attributed it to the conductivity. Its lineshape becomes symmetrical and Lorentzian by grinding the samples to a polycrystalline powder. The EPR parameters of appropriate spin-Hamiltonians were determined. The intensities of the allowed and forbidden lines depended very differently on the microwave power due to different degrees of saturation. | | |

| Magnetic Resonances of 5l V, 209 Bi, Mn 2 + , and Fe 3 + in BiV0 4 Single Crystals | | | Abstract
| Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of 51 V and 209 Bi, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of Mn 2 and Fe 3+ impurities in ferroelastic BiV0 4 single crystals are reviewed. The nuclear quadrupole parameters and principal axes of the two host nuclei, 51 V and 209 Bi, and the second-or-der zero field splitting tensor of the isoelectronic 3d 5 ions, Mn 2 + and Fe 3 + , in Bi V0 4 are determined for the first time. Temperature dependence studies on 51 V NMR and Mn 2+ EPR confirmed that this crystal undergoes a second order phase transition. The substitutional sites of Mn 2+ and Fe 3 + in BiV0 4 are Bi 3 and V 5 + , respectively. | | |

| A Weak Field EPR Study of TANOL in Water and Water-Oil Using Dynamic Nuclear Polarization | | | Abstract
| Solutions of 4-hydroxy-TEMPO(TANOL) in water and water-soyabean oil were investigated in the concentration range 0.1 mM-10mM. Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) and electronic relaxation time T le measurements were performed at each well resolved hyperfine line. In the TANOL/water-soyabean oil solutions, the effect of the presence of soyabean oil was an increase in the measured relaxation rates and a decrease in the observed enhancements. In addition, the observed enhancements diminished in time. For all of the samples, the relaxation rates decreased as the frequency of the transition increased. | | |

| Electron Paramagnetic Resonance of Cu 2+ Doped Na 2 HAs0 4 -7H 2 0 Single Crystals | | | Abstract
| The electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of Cu 2+ doped Na 2 HAs0 4 -7H 2 0 single crystals were studied at room temperature. The results indicate the substitutional entrance of Cu 2+ in two magnetically inequivalent Na + sites. Charge compensation is supposed to be fulfilled by proton vacancies. The spin Hamiltonian parameters were determined. The ground state for Cu 2+ seems to indicate the dominance of the d z 2 orbital and therefore a compression of the distorted octahedron along its C 4v axis. | | |

| An EPR Study of Mo 5+ Introduced into NaY Zeolites by Solid-State Reactions | | | Abstract
| By means of an EPR investigation of Mo 5+ ions introduced into NaY zeolites by solid-state reactions, the location and coordination of Mo 5+ in zeolites were investigated. Two different locations, free and distorted tetrahedral, were found. The molecular orbital coefficient, ß 2 , and the effective charge, Q, for the MO 5+ ions in a distorted tetrahedral structure were calculated and interpreted. | | |

| Temperature Independent Isotropic EPR Spectra of [(CH 3 ) 4 N] 2 MnCl 4 and [(CH 3 ) 4 N] 2 FeCl 4 Single Crystals | | | Abstract
| Electron paramagnetic resonance of [(CH3) 4 N] 2 MnCl 4 and [(CH 3) 4 N] 2 FeCl 4 single crystals was studied between 20 and 400 K. The peak-to-peak derivative linewidths of these crystals seem not to change in this temperature interval and approximate-ly 100 mT for [(CH 3) 4 N] 2 MnCl 4 and -20 mT for [(CH 3) 4 N] 2 FeCl 4 . The spectra were found to be isotropic, with g = 2.0039 for [(CH 3) 4 N] 2 MnCl 4 and g = 2.0042 for [(CH 3) 4 N] 2 FeCl 4 . This temperature independence is attributed to isotropic strong ex-change interactions of Mn 2+ and Fe 2+ nuclei, and it seems that hindered rotation of the MnCl 4 " and FeCl 4 " tetrahedra does not occur in this temperature interval. Temperature dependence, [MnCl 4 ] 2 ~, [FeCl 4 ] 2_ . | | |

| Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Study of Cu 2+ in CdCa (CH 3 COO) 4 * 6H 2 0 Single Crystal | | | Abstract
| The Electron Paramagnetic Resonance spectra of Cu 2+ in CdCa (CH 3 COO) 4 • 6H 2 0 (cadmium cal-cium tetraacetate hexahydrate) powder and single crystal have been recorded at 300 and 133 K. The angular variation of the spectra indicated the substitution of the host Cd 2+ with Cu 2+ . The observed val-ues of the g and A hyperfine tensors were found to be temperature dependent, and this dependence is discussed and explained on the basis of dynamic Jahn-Teller effects. The spin-Hamiltonian parameters were found to be axial symmetric at room temperature, whereas they showed deviations from axial sym-metry at low temperature. The g and A tensors where found to be coaxial within the limits of experi-mental errors, and the ground state wave functions of the complex at 300 and 133 K have been con-structed. | | |

| An EPR Study on V0 2+ and Mn 2+ Ions in Some Zeolites | | | Abstract
| The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of hydrated V0S0 4 -3H 2 0 and MnCl 2 -2H 2 0, adsorbed on the synthetic zeolites 3A, 4A, 5A and 13X of pore diameters 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 1.0 nm, respectively, and the natural zeolites heulandite and clinoptilolite was investigated. The spectra indicated that the coordination structures are V0(H 2 0)5 + and Mn(H 2 0)g + , and that their EPR line widths vary with the pore diameters and the surface areas of the zeolites. The spectra of V0(H 2 0)5 + in natural zeolites at room temperature display an isotropic behavior and therefore indicate that the water ligands are mobile. The EPR spin Hamiltonian parameters, the molecule orbital constant ß* 2 , and the Fermi contact term K e[[ were determined and are discussed. The spectra of Mn(H 2 0)^ for narrow-pore zeolites indicate the existence of mobile and immobile water, whereas for wide-pore and natural zeolites they indicated the existence of only mobile water. The obtained Mn(H 2 Ö)g + spectra are discussed. | | |

| EPR Study of Cr 5 + and Cu 2 + in Some Zeolites Introduced by Solid-and Liquid-State Reactions | | | Abstract
| This study reports on the EPR of Cr 5+ and Cu 2+ ions, introduced by solid-and liquid-state reactions with the synthetic zeolites 3A, 4A and 5A, and the natural zeolite clinoptilolite. Cr 3+ was oxidized to Cr 5 + in the samples, the coordination around Cr 5 + being square pyramidal. Super-hyperfine (shf) interaction of Cr with 27 A1 nucleus was observed in both solid-and liquid-state-introduced 5A zeolite, whereas this shf could not be observed for the solid-state introduced 4A zeolite. The liquid-state Cr-introduced 4A zeolite needed a heat treatment at 473 K for Vi h for the appearance of shfs. Furthermore, it has been found that the coordination structure around the Cu 2 + is square pyramidal in solid-state introduced samples, whereas it is octahedral in the liquid-state introduced ones. | | |

| EPR of 0 2 " Radicals in the Zeolites NH 4 NaY and NH 4 CaA | | | Abstract
| Activated and non-activated states of the zeolites NH 4 NaY and NH 4 CaA, and their NH 4 forms were prepared with an (NH 4) 2 S0 4 solution and were investigated by EPR after 7-irradiation. The formed radicals were attributed to O-T supposed to be trapped near a trigonally coordinated framework of 27 A1 (I = 5/2). Anisotropic O^" spectra were observed, consisting of hyperfine structure due to the 27 Al framework, even at room temperature. This was attributed to the scarceness of NH 4 sites or trap sites because of the preparation of the NH 4 forms of the zeolites with an (NH 4) 2 S0 4 solution. The crystal field splittings were found and interpreted. | | |
