 Title    T etra-w-butylammoniumdicyanoaurat(I), (/j-C4H9)4N Au(CN)2 Tetra-/7-butylammonium Dicyanoaurate(I), (az-C4H9)4N A u(C N)2
Abstract    Single crystals o f (/j-C4H9)4N A u (C N) 2 were obtained by crystallization using the tempera ture decreasing method in a newly developed com puter-controlled apparatus. The colourless crystals aor e monoclinic, space group A 2/n, with a = 20.216(2) Ä, b = 13.130(1) A, c = 9.328(1) A, and ß = 109.69(1)°. The measured density is 1.45 g/cm 3, which agrees with the cal culated density o f 1.40 g/cm 3 for Z = 4. The structure was solved by Direct M ethods using 674 independent reflections and refined by least-squares procedures to conventional and weighted R factors o f 0.068 and 0.058, respectively. The nearly linear [A u(C N)2]~-anions form pseudo-hexagonal layers, in which they are arranged parallel to each other. The shortest A u -A u dis tance is 8.05 A. The stacking o f the layers produces pseudo-trigonal channels, occupied by the cations. The tetra-«-butylammonium cation has four ordered trans chains with idealized D 2d symmetry (42 m).

Title    Crystal Growth and Optical Absorption of Compounds InXY [X = Se, Te; Y = Cl, Br, I]
Abstract    The systems IngXs-InYs (X = Se, Te; Y = Cl, Br, I) are quasibinary and contain the intermediate ternary compounds InXY with incongruent melting behaviour. InSeCl and InSeBr show a significant phase width towards the respective trihalides. InTeCl is di-morphous with a stable a-and a metastable ^-modification. Crystals of the ternary compounds are grown by Bridgman technique and their optical absorption behaviour is studied. Phase relations as well as optical absorption are discussed with respect to the various crystal structures of the intermediate ternary phases.

Title    Crystal Growth and X-Ray Structure of Metastable «-KC0 PO 4
Abstract    Crystals o f KC0PO4 were obtained by growth in a gel of tetramethoxysilane/water at 64 °C. The hexagonal crystals have space group P 63, a = 18.206(1), c = 8.5135(8) [Ä], V = 2443.8(4) [A 3]. Z = 24. The structure was solved by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The struc ture is isotypic with a -K Z n P 0 4. It comprises an ordered three dim ensional network o f alter nating C oÖ 4 and P 0 4 tetrahedra. which has rings of six tetrahedra in the xy plane. These rings form tunnels in the [001] direction, where the potassium ions are located. U pon heating, the compound undergoes a phase transition at about 565 °C; on cooling, the phase transition occurs at 449 °C, where it transforms into another structure which is yet unknown. This indicates that the hexagonal structure is a metastable phase.

Title    Crystal Growth, Room Temperature Crystal Structure and Phase Transitions of K M nP04
Abstract    Single crystals of K M nP 04 grown in a KC1 flux show ferroelastic domains. The structure was determ ined on an optically controlled single domain crystal by X-ray diffraction methods. The cell is triclinic with dimensions a = 5.4813(5), b = 8.627(1), c = 8.887(1), in A, a = 87.73(1)°, ß = 89.10(1)°, y = 88.01(1)°, VM = 419.6(1) A 3 and Z = 4. The structure is closely related to the stuffed /3-tridymite type. DTA experiments between room tem perature and 1000 °C and polarized light microscopy observations showed four phase transitions: at 165, 330, 353 and 707 °C.

Title    Low Temperature Crystal Growth and Structure of Ordered Ba7F12Cl2
Abstract    of composition Ba7F12Cl2 were obtained by a reaction at room temperature be tween Ba2+/Cl"/F_ in a gel of agar-agar/water. The hexagonal crystals have space group P6, «=1064.69(8), c=417.89(5)pm, V=410.24(8) 106 pm3 and Z=l. The anions form a propeller type network located in tunnels parallel to the chex axis; the chloride ions are located at the center on the propeller axes. The Ba2+ ions are coordinated by a (distorted) tricapped trigo nal environment of fluoride and chloride anions. Disorder is present for one particular Ba2+ site. The average structure is isotypic with the structure of Pb7F)2Cl2.
