 Title    Flavonoid Aglycones in the L eaf Resin o f Som e Cistus Species  
 Abstract    Members o f the genus Cistus excrete a leaf resin that consists mainly o f terpenoids. This resin also contains methylated flavonoids as aglycones. Rare methyl deri­ vatives o f myricetin have been isolated from C. monspeli-ensis, along with uncommon methyl derivatives o f quer-cetin. Further flavonoids encountered in the leaf resin o f this and six further species are methyl derivatives o f kaempferol and quercetin, som e o f apigenin and in one species also o f luteolin. The results indicate that there might exist species-specific flavonoid patterns.

 Title    Epicuticular Leaf Wax of Cistus albanicus, Cistaceae  
 Abstract    The epicuticular wax of Cistus albanicus was investi­ gated. Homologous series of alkanes, wax esters, alcohols and long chain fatty acids were identified. The alcohol frac­ tion consisted of primary and most probably of secondary alcohols.

 Title    Reversed Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography of Essential Oils  
 Abstract    A reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic procedure for the separation of essential oils is described. Applying water-acetonitrile elution systems on octyl and octadecyl-silane-bonded silica, complex mixtures o f sequiterpenes and oxygenated volatile constituents can be resolved, comparably to the quality o f gas chromatographic analysis. Photometrical detection at different wavelengths can be an important parameter in optimizing the separation of essential oil constituents. The application o f the described method is demonstrated with naturally occurring mixtures of terpenes from leaves of Cistus ladanifer.

 Title    Further Oxygenated Compounds in the Essential Oil of Cistus ladanifer L. (Cistaceae)  
 Abstract    Benzyl benzoate, cis-ocimenone and a new acetophenone derivative, 2-hydroxy-6-methyl aceto-phone, could be isolated by chromatographic methods from the essential oil o f Cistus ladanifer. Structural elucidation by NMR and MS are described. In addition pinocarvone, campholene alde­ hyde and tagetone were identified by their mass spectra.
