 Title    Verbreitung von Iridoiden in der Gattung Verbena und einigen anderen Verbenoideae Iridoids in Verbena and Some Other Verbenoideae  
 Abstract    12 species of the genus Verbena and one Citharexylum species have been examined for iridoids. Besides the known compounds verbenaline, hastatoside, griselinoside, lamiide, ipolamiide and brasoside, two new iridoids, pulchelloside I (1) [2] and pulchelloside II (2) [3] have been isolated from Verbena species. The structures and absolute configurations of pulchelloside I and II have been determined by spectroscopical methods and some chemical reactions. Citharexylum solanaceum has been shown to contain lamiide and durantoside I. The distribution of the iridoids is in excel­ lent agreement with the taxonomic treatment of the genus Verbena by Schauer. The taxonomic significance of our data and some data from the literature regarding the classification of the sub­ family Verbenoideae is discussed.

 Title    Isolation of Enantiomeric Type Sesquiterpenoids from the Liverwort Riccardia jackii  
 Abstract    A series of the enantiomeric sesquiterpenoids corresponding to the antipodos of those obtained from higher plants were isolated from the liverwort Riccardia jackii. This result is an additional example suggesting the special position taxonoinical of the liverworts in plant kingdom.

 Title    Accumulation of Photoassimilatory Products by Phycobiliprotein- Containing Algae with Special Reference to Cyanidium caldarium  
 Abstract    Representatives o f phycobiliprotein-containing algae such as Anabaena cylindrica, Anacystis ni-dulans, Gloeotrichia echinulata (Cyanophyceae), Chroomonas spec., H em iselm is rufescens, Rhodo-monas spec. (Cryptophyceae), Porphyridium cruentum, Rhodella violacea (Rhodophyceae) along with the unicellular Cyanidium caldarium (unspecified systematic status) have been investigated for their typical photoassimilatory accumulation products. While the red algal species synthesize a rather specific heteroside, 2-O-D-glycerol-ar-D-galactopyranoside (= floridoside), not encountered in the other species analyzed, blue-green algae accumulate fructose, glucose, and sucrose, while the cryptomonads accumulate only glucose and. to a lesser extent, fructose. Cyanidium synthesizes neither disaccharides, nor a heteroside, but shows rapid 14C-labelling o f fructose and glucose. These results are compared with further biochemical and structural findings and are discussed with emphasis on chemotaxonomic implications. Cyanidium caldarium is proposed as an endocya-nome consisting o f a single endocyanella providing less (apoplastidal algal?) host cell.

 Title    Tectorigenin, a Phytoalexin of Centrosema haitiense and Other Centrosema Species  
 Abstract    A phytoalexin isolated from the fungus-inoculated leaflets of Centrosema haitiense, C. pubescens (3 accessions) and C. virginianum has been identified as 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-6-methoxy-isoflavone (tectorigenin). This compound is variously accompanied by other isoflavones includ­ ing the previously described phytoalexin, cajanin (5,2',4'-trihydroxy-7-methoxyisoflavone). Sub­ stantial quantities of aesculetin were obtained when C. haitiense leaves were submerged for 48 h in water or fungal spore suspensions. The taxonomic position of Centrosema within the legume tribe Phaseoleae is discussed.

 Title    Iridoide aus einigen Teucrium-und Ajuga-Arten Iridoids in Some Teucrium and Ajuga Species  
 Abstract    of the genus Teucrium and 3 species of the genus Ajuga have been examined for iridoids. Besides the known compounds Harpagid, 8-O-Acetylharpagid, Ajugol, Ajugosid and Reptosid, which we have isolated from species of both genera, two new iridoids Teucardosid (1) [2] and Teuhircosid (5) have been isolated from Teucrium species only. The structure and relative configuration of the new compounds have been determined by spectroscopic methods fH-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS) and some chemical reactions. The taxonomic significance of our results is discussed.

 Title    Vergleichende Untersuchungen zur Wehrchemie und Drüsenmorphologie abdominaler Abwehrdrüsen von Kurzflüglern aus dem Subtribus Philonthina (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae) Comparative Investigations on Defensive Chem istry and G land Morphology of Abdominal Defensive G lands from Rove Beetles of the Subtribe Philonthina (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae)  
 Abstract    Within the rove beetle subtribe Philonthina (Staphylinidae) there are found paired abdom inal defensive glands which show a bipartition and are characterized by an unique, evaginable evapo­ ration tissue which is described for the first time. The gland chemistry is found to be character­ ized by at least 27 compounds. The m ain com ponent is represented by the alkaloid actinidine, m i­ nor components are iridodial, three possible m onoterpenoid iridodial precursors, an octadecenole and two series o f hydrocarbons and acetates which are partly branched and unsaturated. It could be shown, that the separated gland o f the evaporation tissue, whose evagination was studied, has no different synthetic abilities as com pared with the main gland system. Chemotaxonomic results according to Hennig's principle reveal an isolated position of the rove beetle tribe Q uediini within the subfamilies X antholininae and Staphylininae. The morphologically unique defensive gland of the X antholininae may be homologized with other abdom inal glands o f the Staphylinina and Philonthina, based on the comm on presence of iridoid defensive components.

 Title    On the Volatile Components of Heterotropa takaoi and Related Species (Aristolochiaceae)  
 Abstract    The volatile components of the leaves of four species and five varieties of the section Bicornes of Heterotropa were examined by gas chromatography and gas chromatograph-mass spectro-metry. The analytical results showed that the species of the section contain phenylpropanes, terpenes, and a paraffin as main components. The components have been used to construct phylogenetic trees of the section Bicornes. Despite some discrepancies, the phylogenetic tree obtained for the section seems to be relevant at the tribal revel. Among the species of the section, geographical variation of twelve localities of H. takaoi also were examined and three chemical types (myristicin, safrole, n-pentane-elemicin types) of H. takaoi are distinguished on the basis of their components.

 Title    Flavonoids from Some Frullania Species (Hepaticae)  
 Abstract    From Frullania teneriffae 5 known flavone aglycones and 6 flavone glycosides were iso­ lated, among them the new 6-OH-luteolin-6-0-ß-D-glucoside-7-0-ß-D-glueoside-6'"-(3-hy-droxy-3-methylglutaroylester). F. cesatiana contains 2 flavone-di-C-glucosides and the new 6-OH-luteolin-7-0-ß-D-glucoside-6"-(3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaroylester)-3'-0-glucuronide. The phenolic pattern of F. eboracensis was compared to that of F. muscicola. The known 6-OH-luteolin-7-0-ß-D-glucoside-6"-(3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaroylester) was identified from F. gibbosa and F. arecae.

 Title    Surface Lipids of the Silverfish (Lepisma saccharina L.)  
 Abstract    Surface lipids obtained from the silverfish by short-term solvent extraction contain ali­ phatic hydrocarbons, monoester waxes, cholesteryl esters, triglycerides, free cholesterol, and free fatty acids. Together, cholesteryl esters and free cholesterol account for >30% of the total lipids. As found for other arthropods living in aquatic or moist environments unsaturated homo-logues predominate among the acidic constituents. The cuticular lipid composition o f silverfish resembles that of other more primitive arthro­ pod forms such as stoneflies and dragonflies.

 Abstract    Above-ground parts and roots from four Stachys species (S. germanica L., S. sylvatica L. and the Balkan endemics S. thracica Dav. and S. plumosa Griseb.) as well as o f three Betonica species (B. officinalis L. and the Balkan endemics B. bulgarica Deg. et Neic. and B. scardica Griseb.) were screened for phenols (phenylethanoid glycosides, flavonoid glycosides and the phenolic diterpene betolide). Three phenylethanoid glycosides, a flavonoid glycoside and the phenolic diterpene betolide were isolated and identified, most of them for the first time in the investigated species. The results obtained support the view that Stachys and Betonica are well separated genera.

 Title    Sterol Composition of the Black Sea Sponges Hymeniacidon sanguinea (Grant) and Halichondria panicea (Pallas)  
 Abstract    The sterol composition of H ym eniacidon sanguinea and H alichondria panicea from the Black Sea was investigated. Both sponges contain similar mixtures o f stan d s and o f dietary A5-sterols. Main sterols appeared to be C27-sterols, which could be connected with a common diet for the both sponges. Saturated short side chain sterols have been found in H ym eniaci­ don sanguinea. Three of them were novel for sponges. A possibility for the transformation of som e dietary sterols into stands is discussed.

 Title    N O T I Z E N Long Chain Alkanes and Alcohols from the Leaf Waxes of Different Coffea Species  
 Abstract    A gaschromatographic study has been made of the alkane-and alcoholic fractions from the leaf waxes of some Coffea species. The n-alkanes have the odd-carbon-numbered, the primary alcohols the even-carbon-numbered members pre­ dominating. The major homologues of the alkane fractions are C29 and C31 and of the alcoholic fractions C30 and C32 . The sub-divisions Erythrocoffea and Pachycoffea could be distinguished by the alkane patterns. Im Rahmen einer chemotaxonomischen Studie der Gattung Coffea wurden die Alkan-und Alkohol­ fraktionen der Blattwachse untersucht.

 Title    Sexual Pheromones and Related Egg Secretions in Laminariales (Phaeophyta)  
 Abstract    Volatile egg secretions of 15 species belonging to 5 families of the brown algal order Laminariales have been analyzed by high resolution glass capillary gas chrom atography. 16 com­ ponents have been identified and partially determ ined quantitatively. The composition of the pherom one bouquets and pherom one specificity for induction of spermatozoid-release and -chemotaxis are discussed in respect to ecophysiological functions and significance as chemo-taxonom ic markers.

 Title    A Survey of Alkaloids in Spartium junceum L. (Genisteae-Fabaceae)  
 Abstract    The alkaloid pattern of Spartium junceum has been investigated. Cytisine, N-methylcytisine, anagyrine, rhombifoline and epi-baptifoline occur as major compounds in most of the samples studied. Considerable quantitative differences were found between various parts of the plant. The alkaloid content changed strongly dependent on the seasons. Only a limited variation can be ascribed to geographical origin.

 Title    Bromoisoxazoline Alkaloids from the Caribbean Sponge Aplysina insularis  
 Abstract    An investigation of a specimen of the Caribbean sponge A plysina insularis resulted in the isolation of fourteen bromoisoxazoline alkaloids (1 -1 4), of which 14-oxo-aerophobin-2 (1)* is a novel derivative. Structure elucidation of the compounds have been established from spectral studies and data for 1 are reported. Constituents 2 to 6 and 11 to 14 have not been identified sofar in A plysina insularis species. The presence of the known compounds 7 to 9 in A plysina insularis indicates that their use for chem otaxonom ical purposes is questionable.
