 Abstract    Mössbauer-Investigation of the Li2FeCl4 Polymorphs The room temperature Mössbauer spectrum of the high-temperature polymorph of Li2FeCl4 is in agreement with an inverse spinel structure and a disordered distribution of the cations on the octahedral sites. Mössbauer spectra of the orthorhombic room-temperature modification of Li2FeCl4 correspond to a 1:1 ordering of Li + -and Fe2 + -ions on the octahedral sites.  Abstract    In the spinel system FeV204-ZnV204 pure Fe(II)-spinels could not be prepared. Möss-bauer spectra show that the solid solution has the composition Fea; 2+ Zni_2:[P 1 e2/ 3+ V2-2/]04, y depending on the partial pressure of oxygen during preparation. The reaction of 1/3 Fe + 1/3 Fe203 -+-V2O3 in a closed tube was also studied by X-ray and Mössbauer investigation.

 Abstract    For the spinel system Zn1_A ;F e^ G a/l(Fe1+/lG a1_ /l)04 the index X has been determined by X-ray measurements: X = 0 in the region 0 < x < 0,35; the increase of X to 0,62 within 0,35 < x < 1 is nearly linear. The distribution of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions over the lattice sites has been derived from lattice constants and ionic distances, and also by Mössbauer spectroscopy. In the spinels with x < 0,3 the tetrahedral sites are preferably occupied by Fe2+ ions, for x > 0,5 Fe3+ ions dominate. At x = 0,4 the occupation of the lattice sites by iron ions is statistical, the high temperature Mössbauer spectrum shows a single line only. All spinels are n-type hopping conductors mainly conducting via the octahedral sites.

 Abstract    The spinel series Fe2V04-ZnV204 and Fe2V04-ZnFe204 have been prepared and investigated. The lattice constants and Mössbauer spectra lead to a distribution of cations which proves that Fe2V04 is a partially inverse spinel with Fe(II) and Fe(III) on the tetrahedral site. The Seebeck effect is interpreted with a model of both tetrahedral and octahedral conduction based on charge hopping.
