 Abstract    The donor-acceptor complexes PPh4[Cl(succinimide)2] and PPh4[Cl(N-chlorosuccinimide)2] have been prepared by reactions of PPh4Cl with succinimide and N-chlorosuccinimide, re­ spectively. in acetonitrile solutions. The complexes have been characterized by IR spectros­ copy and by crystal structure determinations. The crystal structure of N-chlorophthalimide has also been solved.

 Abstract    Sensitized photooxidation of 4-phenyl-l,2-dithiolane 1 has been studied. Reacting it with 0.5 mole equivalents o f singlet oxygen, a mixture of 1, 4-phenyl-1,2-dithiolane-l-oxide 2, and 4-phenyl-l,2-dithiolane-2-dioxide 3 is produced. Using one mole equivalent of singlet oxygen, 3 is obtained in high yields. The chemical oxidation of 1 using H 20 2/H 0 A c yields pure 2. With 2 a diastereoselectivity of 10:1 is observed. The oxidative addition of 1 to L2Pt 072-C-,Hd) [L = PPh, (4), 1/2 dppe (5)] leads to the 3-phenyl-propane dithiolato complexes L?P t-S -C H ,-C H P h -C H -,-S 6a,b. The platinum(O) com pound 4 reacts with 2 to give the bimetallic compound [(P h ,P)P t-S (0)-C H T -C H P h -C H -,-/i-S ^ 7 and the monometallic spe­ cies c/s-(Ph3P)2P t -S (0) -C H 2-C H P h -C H 2-$ 8. These complexes contain the 3-sulfido-l-(2-phenyl)-propanesulfenato ligand. All com pounds have been characterized by their spec­ troscopic data.

 Title    Crystal and Molecular Structure of Aminoguanidine Sulphate, an Important Enzyme Inhibitor and Starting Material of Drug Syntheses  
 Abstract    Aminoguanidine is not only an agent with a variety of pharmacological effects but also an im portant starting material of am idinohydrazone-type drugs and enzyme inhibitors. There­ fore, we have now synthesized am inoguanidine sulphate CN4H 82+.S 0 42~ and determined its structure by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The doubly protonated (dication) form o f am ino­ guanidine that is present in the sulphate could, in principle, exist in the form of several differ­ ent tautom ers. The crystal studied consisted exclusively of one tautomer: one of the nitrogens of the hydrazine moiety bears three hydrogen atoms while the other one (the one bound to the carbon) bears one hydrogen. The other two nitrogens are bound to two hydrogens each. The predominance of this tautom er can be explained by the very strong resonance in it. The dica­ tion of aminoguanidine is remarkably planar. The hydrogens of the hydrazine moeity are, however, clearly out of the plane of the other atoms. There is a strong hydrogen bond between the proton of the m onoprotonated nitrogen and one sulphate oxygen. This bond obviously causes the deviation of the hydrogen from the plane. The bonds between the carbon atom and the adjecnt nitrogens are essentially equally long, indicating that each bond has approxim ately the same am ount of double bond character. One of the positive charges of the dication is thus delocalized, being shared by all of the atoms of the C N 3 moiety. In this respect, the structure is similar to that of all bis(amidinohydrazones) whose structures have been determined. The other positive charge of aminoguanidine dication is localized at the nitrogen bearing three hydrogens.

 Title    Zur Chemie der Roccellsäure On the Chemistry o f Roccellic Acid  
 Abstract    The isomerization of roccellic acid to threo-roccellic acid has been investigated. Reduction of dimethyl roccellate with LiAlH4 gave the corresponding diol which yielded on oxidation with Jones' reagent two isomeric 7-lactones. 1-Methyl roccellic amide has been transformed by a photochemical reaction to the <5-lactone acaranoic acid. Two copper complexes of roccel-limide have been prepared.

 Abstract    On the Crystal Chemistry of Oxoplatinates. A New Phase of the Composition Sr4 _xN avP t0 6 (x -0.33) G. Tams, Hk. Single crystals of Sr3 67Na() 33PtO fi were prepared by heating oxide mixtures in closed silver tubes and investigated by X-ray single crystal techniques. It crystallizes with trigonal symme­ try, space group Dfd-R 3 c (Nr. 167) with a = 9.6617, c = 11.6580 Ä, Z = 6. Sr367Na()33P t0 6 belongs to the Sr4P t0 6 type and is isotypic to K4CdCl6. One point position characterized by a trigonal prismatic O 2-coordination is occupied by N a+ and Sr2+ statistically. The crystal structure is discussed with respect to the related compounds Sr3C u P t0 6 and Ca3 5Cu() 5P t0 6.

 Abstract    Single crystals of the phase NaBa4Cu0 5P t1 s0 8 were prepared in closed silver tubes. The black and moisture sensitive crystals were investigated by four-circle diffractometer X-ray tech­ niques. They show trigonal symmetry, space group D2-P321, a = 10.0644, c = 8.3811 A, Z = 3 and belong to the perovskites. The typical M20 9 double octahedra are occupied by Pt4+ and Cu2+ in a different manner. Na+ is partly in and out of the centres of trigonal prisms of oxygen. These features will be discussed with respect

The light blue crystals show monoclinic sym­ metry, space group C2h-C 2/c, a = 11.897, b = 12.855, c -6.688 A, ß = 113.06°, Z = 4. The structure type is characterized by A s 0 4 tetrahedra, dumb-bell-like coordinated Cu(I), twisted C u 0 4 square polygons and octahedra statistically occupied by Mg/Cu2+.

 Abstract    The ,«2-halogeno complexes PPh4[X(N-bromosuccinimide)2] and PPh4[X(N-bromophthali-mide)2] with X = Cl and Br have been prepared by reactions of N-bromosuccinimide and N-bromophthalimide, respectively, with the corresponding tetraphenylphosphonium halides PPh4X in acetonitrile solutions. The compounds form pale yellow crystal needles, which were characterized by IR spectroscopy and by crystal structure determinations. PPh4[Cl(N-Bromosuccinimide)2] (1): Space group Z = 4, structure solution with 2516 observed unique reflections, R = 0.040. Lattice dimensions at -2 5 °C: a = 1775.9(1), b = 764.3(1), c = 2341.7(2) pm, ß = 101.84(1)°.

 Abstract    The ,a2-halogeno complexes PPh4[X(N-Iodosuccinimide)2] • CH 3CN with X = Cl. Br, I have been prepared by reactions of N-Iodosuccinimide with the corresponding tetraphenylphos-phonium halides PPh4X in acetonitrile solutions. The compounds form pale yellow crystal needles, which were characterized by IR spectroscopy and by crystal structure determina­ tions. PPh4[Cl(N-Iodosuccinimide)2] C H 3CN (1): Space group Pna2!, Z = 4, 4461 observed unique reflections, R -0.027. Lattice dimensions at -6 0 °C: a = 1840.5(9), b = 2589(1), c = 728.2(4) pm.

 Abstract    The title compounds have been prepared by reaction of phenyl-, allyl-or amino-substituted disilylmethanes and disilylphenylmethanes with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. New organo­ silicon oligomers and polymers are obtained in good yields and high purities from these silyltriflates and lithium acetylides, triphenylgermyllithium or diphenylsilanediol/triethyl-amine. In these compounds the carbosilane units are connected by alkyne or siloxane bridges. The structures have been confirmed by NMR spectroscopy (29Si, 13C, 'H) and elemental analysis.

 Abstract    Direct Synthesis, Lead(II) Complexes, X-Ray The lead(II) complexes of 2,2'-iminodiethanol (H2Dea)Pb2(D ea)(N 03)2(DM F), Pb2(HDea)2Cl2 and [Pb2Br6](H3Dea)2(D M F = N,N-dimethylformamide) have been synthesized from the com ­ ponents and characterized by X-ray crystallography. Both mono-(HD ea) and doubly (Dea) deprotonated H N (C H 2C H 2OH)2 are coordinated via oxygen and nitrogen atom s in Pb2(D e a)(N 0 3)2(D M F) and Pb2(HDea)2Cl2. The nitrate complex contains three-and two-coordinate lead(II) atom s linked by /^-bridging oxygen atoms, whilst in the chloride complex four-and tw o-coordinate metal atoms are also associated by //2-bridging oxygen atoms. In [Pb2Br6](H3Dea)2 the nearest coordination environment of metal atom s consists of bromine atom s only, while the H 3D ea+ cations are not coordinated to lead atom s at all. The structural differences between the coordination environments of the lead atoms are discussed in connec­ tion with the inert pair effect. All compounds possess ionic type crystal structures.

 Abstract    D ecem ber 10, 1993 Crystal Structure, X-Ray The crystal structure of Sr0 2Ca28Tl20 6 has been determ ined by single crystal X-ray diffrac­ tion. The compound crystallizes in space group Pbam (No. 55) with a = 11.228(1), b = 16.471(1) and c = 3.3326(3) Ä. It is isostructural with Ca3In20 6 and SrCa2In20 6.
