 Abstract    Alum inium Brom ide. Alum inium Chloride. Pyridi-nium B rom ide. Pyridinium Iodide. Phase Diagram Phase equilibrium studies o f the Lewis acid-base system s A lC l,/P yH B r and A lBr,/PyH I indicate the existence o f congruently melting com pounds of the molar ratios 1:1 and 2 :3 . These results are quite different from those o f our studies of the A lC l3/PyHCl and the AlBrVPyHBr system s, in which four com pounds in the molar ratios 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 2 :3 could be detected. The m elting point of pyridinium iodide observed at 284,8 °C (decom p .) differs from the previously reported one.

The intensities o f the sharp peaks correlate exactly with the statistical abundance ratio. W hereas the frequency decreases by nearly equidis­ tant steps o f 7 c i t T 1 with increasing n values, the geom etric isomers for n = 2, 3 and 4 are separated by only about 2 c m ' 1. The band assignments are verified by T eller-R edlich calcula­ tions.

 Abstract    Clusters, M e ta l-M e ta l B ond Cleavage The phosphinidene bridged clusters F eC o2(C O)y(PM e) and FeC oW C p(C O)8(P M e) add the diphosphinom ethane ligands dmpm and dppm with concomitant opening of two m etal—metal bonds. The crystal structure determination of the addition product (M e2P -C H 2-P M e 2)F eC oW C p(C O)8(P M e) has shown that the F e -W and F e -C o bonds have been opened and the chelating diphosphine spans the Co —W bond. This is in contrast to the reaction with m onodentate phosphines where the C o —W and C o —Fe bonds are broken. Upon heating the addition products elim inate two moles o f CO with formation of the diphos­ phinom ethane substituted starting clusters, which in turn add CO under pressure to re-form the addition products.

Optical metal to m etal charge transfer (M M C T) excitation from F e 11 to Hg" leads to the reduction o f Hg" to Hg" an the oxidation of [F e(C N)6]4~ to [F e(C N)6]3~. In the com plex [(N C)5C oI-H g II-C o I(C N)5]6" the m etals are strongly coupled by direct but polar metal metal bonds. MMCT (C o '^ H g 11) excitation induces the ph oto­ redox reaction: [H gC o2(C N)l0]6_—>Hg° + 2[C o(C N)5]3~.

 Abstract    Tris(benzoyl-thiobenzoyl-m ethanato-O .S)indium . X-Ray A second modification o f the title com pound has been isolated and characterized by an X-ray structure analysis. It crystallizes in the m onoclinic space group P 2 l/c. The indium atom is hexacoordinated and surrounded by three sulfur and three oxygen atoms in a facial arrangement as has been found for a previously known isom er. H owever, the phenyl groups adopt a different orientation, hence it is a rotamer.

Cycloaddition to D ien es, M NDO -Calculations A study o f the dienophilic properties of F ,C P = C (H)F (1) and F3C P = C (D)F (4) has been performed by using M e3SnP(CF3)CF:H (2) and M e3SnP(C F3)CF2D (3), respectively, as precur­ sors for the in situ generation o f 1 and 4 in the presence o f 2 ,3-dim ethyl-l,3-butadiene, 1,3-cyclohexadiene or 9,10-dim ethylanthracene. Slow elim ination o f M e3SnF occurs at 55 °C yielding the cycloadducts of 1 and 4, respectively, within 5 or 7 days. Polymerization is observed as the main stabilizing reaction o f 1 and 4, thus reducing the yields o f the [2+4]-cycloadducts 5 to 9 to about 20%. They are formed as mixtures o f diastereom ers in the ratio a:b = 90:10. In the preferred isom er a according to NM R data CF3 and F have anti positions. Since N M D O calcula­ tions yield energy barriers o f about 40 kcal/mol for E /Z isom erization, and literature values for inversion barriers o f trialkyl phosphanes are o f the same m agnitude, the formation of isomers most likely has to be explained by a nonconcerted mechanism o f the [2 + 4]-cycloaddition.

 Abstract    NM R Spectra, D im ethylam ine, Carbondioxide, D im ethylam m onium Dim ethylcarbam ate, Dimethylcarbam ic Acid Dim carb, a liquid distillable 1 .8 :1-dim ethylam ine—carbondioxide com plex which can be used as a preparatively profitable dim ethylam ine source, displays unusual properties in view o f a salt ("dimethylammonium dim ethylcarbam ate"). The dynamic structure behaviour has been investi­ gated by 'H , 13C, and l5N NM R spectroscopy: At am bient temperature dimcarb underlies a rapid dimethylamine change between ammonium and carbamate functionality (A G * about 58 kJ/mol). On further temperature decreasing prototropic interactions betw een dim ethylam monium and dimethylamine as well as dimethylcarbam ate and dimethylcarbam ic acid species are additionally revealed. Timely averaged, ionic structures predom inate, obviously dim ethylam monium di­ methylcarbamate com binations as intimate ion pairs. Involved dimethylcarbamic acid can be trapped as m ethylester in high yield by reaction o f dimcarb with diazom ethane. M oreover, the dimethylcarbamic acid trim ethylsilylester, obtained from dimcarb with the aid o f trimethyl-chlorosilane, affords a crystalline product by m ethanolysis at —78 °C. probably dimethylcarbamic acid, which decom poses above —50 °C under carbondioxide elim ination and regeneration of dimcarb.

 Abstract    N,N '-Bis(trim ethylsilyl)benzam idinato-tellurium trichloride, Synthesis, Crystal Structure The title com pound has been prepared by the reaction o f N ,N ,N '-tris(trim ethylsilyl)-benzamidine with tellurium tetrachloride in C H 2C12 solution. The com plex was characterized by an X-ray structure determ ination. Crystal data: space group P I , Z = 2, (2428 observed inde­ pendent reflexions, R = 0.031). Lattice dim ensions (19 °C): a = 946.7(1), b = 1031.5(1), c — 1337.1(1) pm; a = 67.411(8)°, ß = 68.508(9)°, y = 67.195(8)°. P h -C (N S iM e 3)2TeC l3 forms monom eric m olecules, in which the tellurium atom is <£>-octahedrally surrounded by three chlorine atom s and by the two nitrogen atom s o f the amidinato chelate (bond lengths Te —N = 209.6 and 219.2 pm). The lone pair at the tellurium (IV) center and the small bite angle o f the ligand cause a strong distortion o f the octahedral geom etry.
