Title    Reactions of Chromyl Chloride with Carboxylic Acids and Carboxylic Acid Anhydrides
Abstract    Chromyl Chloride reacts with carboxylic acids [RCOOH where R — C2H5, AZ-C3H7, CH2CI, CHC1 2 and CCI3] to give reduced chromium(III) carboxylates, [Cr 3 0(00CR) 6 (H 2 0) 3 ]Cl. Magne-tic susceptibility, UV-visible and IR measurements are all consistent with their trinuclear basic structures. Reactions of chromyl chloride with carboxylic acid anhydrides [(RCO) z O where R = CH 3 , C 2 H 5 and «-C 3 H 7 ] give dinuclear oxo-bridged complexes of the type, [Cr 2 0(00CR) 3 ]Cl. These compounds behave as non-electrolytes in polar organic solvents. IR spectra suggest the presence of bridging carboxylato groups containing Cr—O — Cr chains. Their low magnetic mo-ment values suggest polymeric structures exhibiting antiferromagnetic coupling between Cr atoms.

Abstract    Tetrafluorosilane and phenyltrifluorosilane react with the O-trimethylsilyl derivatives of N.N-disubstituted aminoethanols and with the N-trimethylsilyl derivative of N.N.N'-trimethylethylene diamine to give the corresponding monosubstituted fluorosilyl compounds in which, on the basis of 19 F NMR spectroscopic studies, intramolecular N —Si bonding raises the coordination number of silicon from four to five (i.e. A 4 Si —> A 5 Si). The low temperature 19 F NMR data suggest a trigonal-bipyramidal configuration at A 5 Si with an axial N —Si coordinate bond.

Title    Antagonists of the Luteinizing Hormone Releasing Hormone with Emphasis on Amino Acids in Position Five
Abstract    Seventeen analogs of the luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) have been syn-thesized, bioassayed, and compared for antiovulatory activity (AOA) in rats. The emphasis of design was replacement of Tyr 5 of LHRH. Position 5 has not been extensively studied. [N—Ac—D-2-Nal 1 , D-pClPhe 2 , D-3-Pal 3 , D-Arg 6 , D—Ala 10 ]-LHRH was the baseline for new designs. Comparison of the AOA's of the 17 analogs with the baseline revealed the two peptides with Phe 5 and 3-Pal 5 had equivalent AOA's, and were the best of the 17, and about 45% more potent than the baseline. Analogs with pClPhe 5 , oClPhe 5 , a-MepClPhe 5 , 2-Nal 5 , Trp 5 , and His 5 were less potent than the Phe 5 -and 3-Pal 5 -analogs. Based on the Phe 5 -analog, eight other analogs were synthesized with changes in positions 1, 2, 3 and 7 and although none were better than the baseline, 5/8 showed 20—60% AOA's at 250 ng and revealed optimum positions for new designs.

Title    Epoxide Assisted Displacement of Triflyl Group by Fluoride Ion. An Efficient Approach to Fluorodeoxy Sugars
Abstract    Displacement of triflyl group by fluoride ion in benzyl 2,3-anhydro sugars leads with stereochemical inversion to fluorodeoxy sugars, providing a general method for the introduction of fluorine in the neigh-bourhood of oxirane ring in anhydro sugars. This procedure is mild, convenient, and does not experi-ence difficulties which sometime are encountered in nucleophilic fluoride displacements in carbohydrate systems.

 Abstract    Crystal Structure, Polychalcogenides Cs 2 S 5 • H 2 0 has been synthesized from aqueous solutions of Cs 2 S and stoichiometric quantities of sulfur. Cs 2 S solutions result from the reaction between Ba(0H) 2 -8H 2 0, Cs 2 S0 4 , and H 2 S. Cs 2 S 5 -H 2 0 crystallizes triclinicly, space group PI, with Z = 2. The lattice constants are as follows: a = 6.974(3) A, b = 7.870(4) A, c = 10.413(4) A, a = 108.72(4)°, ß = 111,23(4)°, y = 82,00(4)°. Characteristic features are the unbranched zig-zag-chains of S 5 2 " like in other known pentachal-cogenides M 2 X 5 . Hydrogen bridges occur between the terminal sulfur atoms of the chains and the oxygen atoms of water molecules.

Title    Untersuchungen am System primäres Aminophosphan/Tetrachlormethan bzw. Tetrachlorsilan Investigations in the System Primary Aminophosphane/Tetrachloromethane, and Tetrachlorosilane, Respectively
Abstract    Secondary Trichloromethyl-and Trichlorosilylphosphanes, Elimination Amino-trichloromethylphosphane 2 and -trichlorosilylphosphane 3 are available from the reac-tions of bis(trimethylsilyl)aminophosphane 1 with tetrachloromethane and tetrachlorosilane, re-spectively. While compound 2 can be converted into the methylenephosphane 4 by a /3-elimina-tion of hydrogenchloride, 3 eliminates silicochloroform to give the diphosphane 6. In contrast to compound 2, the reaction of the sterically more hindered bis(dimethyl-rm-butyl)aminophosphane 7 with tetrachloromethane yields the corresponding secondary aminochlorophosphane 10.
