Title    Magnetic and Optical Studies of Copper Caprylate in Dioxane-Ethanol Mixtures
Abstract    e h r o t r a , Y . P . M e h t a , an d T . N . N a g a r D epartm ent of Chemistry, U niversity of Jod hp ur, Jo d hp ur, India IR, UV, copper, magnetic moment The IR spectrum of copper caprylate exhihits only one absorption band at about 1580 cm '1 which has been assigned to the binuclear configuration of copper soaps. The magnetic and spectroscopic studies confirm that the binuclear structure of copper capryla te persists in solutions. The absorption band near 375 m^ reveals the presence of copper-copper linkage and thus establishes the binuclear configuration of copper soaps in mixed solvents. The behaviour of copper soap and copper salt solutions is quite different and the absorption m axima are observed a t different wavelengths.

Title    Fragmentbildung und Ionenausbeute der Tetramethylverbindungen von Si, Ge, Sn und Pb in Abhängigkeit von der Elektronenstoßenergie im Massenspektrometer Fragmentations and Ion Yields of the Tetram ethyl Compounds of Si, Ge, Sn and Pb in Dependence of the Electron Im pact Energy in a Mass Spectrometer
Abstract    Relative fragmentation intensities, ion yields, dependence, electron energy In this study the behaviour of the tetramethyl compounds of Si, Ge, Sn and Pb in an ion source was investigated by mass spectrometry under equal conditions. A systematic investigation of the fragment formation and of the ion yield as a function of the electron impact energy and the atomic number of the central atom in the tetramethyl compounds was carried out. In all cases the trimethyl ions show the highest intensity in the whole energy range from 15 to 100 eV electron impact energy. At an electron impact energy of 20 eV the number of peaks having a high intensity in the mass spectrum is rather small. The relative stability of the trimethyl ions can be ascribed to their even electron number. Besides, the trimethyl ions are isoelectronic with the trivalent compounds of the I I I A group. The decreasing intensity of the trimethyl ions and the increasing intensity of the monomethyl ions with higher atomic number of the central atom can be explained by the increasing stability of the lower oxidation state. The ion yield of the sum of all fragments containing a metal atom reaches a maximum in the case of Ge(CH3)4 and decreases from Ge(CH3)4 to Pb(CH3)4. The tendency of the ion yields of the metal containing fragments is parallel to the values of the electronegativities calculated by A l l r e d and R o c h o w . The tendency of the ion yields and the localization of the positive charge after the ionization are discussed in detail.

Title    Vibrational Spectra of Crystals with Olivine Structure I. Silicates
Abstract    Diese Arbeit ist dem Andenken an F r a n k M a t o SSI gewidmet Crystal vibrational spectra, olivine, silicates, Raman spectra, IR spectra Polarized R a m a n (Ra) and IR reflection spectra from single crystals of olivine, forsterite, monticellite and tephroite have been measured and assigned. Comparing the different spectra including those of other substances of the same structure, it could be shown, that the four stretching vibrations of the S i0 4 tetrahedra are the only vibrations which may be interpreted as independent group vibrations. Cation typical vibrations are more or less strongly coupled to the deformation vibrations of the S i0 4 tetrahedra.

Title    Nachweis von strukturellen L-Defekten im innerkristallinen Wasser von hydratierten Vermikuliteinkristallen mittels dielektrischer Messungen Detection of Structural L-Defects in Intracrystalline W ater of Vermiculites by Dielectric Measurements
Abstract    L-Defects, intracrystalline water, vermiculites Homoionic single crystals of vermiculite in different hydration stages (isolated water molecules, discrete monomolecular or bimolecular water layers respectively) have been used for dielectric measurements within the frequency of 30 Hz and 10 MHz. The results are interpreted by the diffusion of isolated structural L-defects. The activation energy of the process has been determined to be 2.3 kcal/mole.

Abstract    Dichlorophosphate, molybdenum (V), molybdenum (VI), vibrational spectra Polymeric M0O2 (O2PCI2) • POCI3 1 is obtained by the reaction of M0CI5 and P 203Cl4, while MoOaCla-POCla 2 is formed by passage of CI2O into a solution of M0CI5 in POCI3. From magnetic measurements and I R data it appears that 1 contains no Mo-O-Mo system but Mo-O-P-O-Mo bridges. The I R and R am an spectra of 2 were assigned by comparison with the spectrum of Mo0 2 Cl2-H20 .

Title    Magnetic Studies of Cerium Ammonium Sulphate in Relation to Crystal Structure Applied Physics Laboratories
Abstract    Magnetism, rare earth, crystal structure The magnetic anisotropy and principal magnetic susceptibility of the single crystal of cerium ammonium sulphate has been measured and the results obtained have been discussed in the light of crystalline field theory. I t has been observed that the cubic field in cerium ammonium sulphate is very much stronger and the contribution of the rhombic field is almost negligible. The predominance of the cubic field over the rhombic field may also be due to surrounding of the cerium ion by octahedron of water molecules with their negatively charged oxygen atoms pointing towards the central Ce3+ ion. The relative orientation of the atomic groups with different ions in the unit cell makes the resultant anisotropy smaller.

Title    Physikalische Eigenschaften kristallisierter Dichlorobis(isonitril)platin(II)-Komplexe Physical Properties of Crystallized Dichloro(bis-isonitrile)platinum(II)complexes
Abstract    Intermolecular metal interactions, optical spectra, one-dimensional metals The properties of some new dichlorobis (aryl-isonitrile) platinum (II) complexes are given. The optical reflexion spectra of the compounds in their colored modification depend strongly on the strength of the intermolecular metal interactions. It is shown that the solid state properties are influenced heavily by the steric requirements of the isonitrile ligands.

The arrangem ent of the guest m olecules in the interlayer space is dom inated by the interaction host lattice-am ine nitrogen, if the alkyl chain of the am ine contains 4 to 9 C -atom s. In com plexes containing 12 to 18 C-atoms per alk yl chain, the van der W aals interaction betw een the alkyl chains is essentially responsible for the sterical arrangem ent of th e intercalated molecules. In vestigation s w ith n -octadecylam ine-X bS2 and oleylam ine-N bS2 in the tem perature range of 2 0 -1 20°C lead to the observation of severval reversible phase transitions. These transitions are caused by conform ational changes of the gu est m olecules as w ell as by changes in the ratio R X H 2:XbS2.
