| | | | Abstract
| A resonant coupling mechanism is presented which leads to nearly full absorption of an electro-magnetic wave in an overdense plasma column. In the resonance case a strong enhancement of the electric field strength within the plasma is found. Under certain conditions this high electric field strength causes parametric excitation of plasma waves in the underdense edges of the discharge. It turned out that the occurance of this decay process is mainly determined by the density gra-dients in the plasma. | | |

| Emission Spectra of Crystal Phosphor BaCl2-Pb | | | Abstract
| Emission spectra of Pb 2+ centres in barium chloride single crystals have been studied between 4 and 300 K by excitation with different wave lengths. Excitation spectra at 300 K have also been obtained by measuring the emission in the maxima of the shoitwave and longwave bands. The results allow to conclude that the high energy emission band is due to the transition | 3 Tiu > —* • | J Aig > in the activator ion. The more effective excitation of the low energy emission band ob-served in the shortwave region of the absorption spectrum and the complex nature of both bands are discussed. | | |

| 09 Ag NMR-Studies of the Selective Solvation of the Ag + -Ion in Water-Ethylamine-Mixtures and of the Coordination of Halide-Anions to the Silver-Ethylamine Solvate Complexes | | | Abstract
| 109 Ag chemical shift measurements of 0.02 up to 3 molar solutions of AgNOa, AgCl, and AgBr in solvent mixtures of H2O (W) and ethylamine (ea) were performed. The extremely long relax-ation times T\ and T2 were determined with new techniques. The Ag + -ion in solvent mixtures of W and ea shows a strongly selective solvation by ea. The 109 Ag chemical shift of the solvate complex [Ag ea2] + surrounded solely by W is 62 = (335 ± 2) ppm (referred to the Ag+-ion in W). A further solvation in addition to the inner solvation sphere was determined; this solvation is not or only weakly selective. There is a rapid chemical exchange; the lifetime of the inner solvation sphere is long compared with the Larmor period, whereas the solvation outside this sphere is changed in times shorter than the Larmor period. In contrast to the N03~-anion, the halide anions Cl~ and Br~ are partly coordinated to the [Ag ea2] + complex. The equilibrium constants for this coordination were determined as well as the chemical shifts of the [Ag ea2 • Cl] and the [Ag ea2 • Br] complexes. The bromine ion is coor-dinated for shorter times than the Larmor period, whereas the time of the coordination of the chlorine ion may be comparable to the Larmor period or shorter. | | |

| Investigation of the Ce 3 + /Br03 ~-Reaction | | | Abstract
| The reaction between Ce 3+ and bromate was studied in sulfuric acid solution using a dual wavelength spectrometer. From the spectral dependence of the absorbanee in the region from 450 to 600 nm it is concluded that Br02 is an intermediate of the reaction. The kinetics of forma-tion and decay of Br02 is compared to theoretical models. | | |

| Kinetics of the Solid State Reaction between CuO and W03 | | | Abstract
| The solid state reaction of CUWO4-2 formation from CuO and WO3 was studied by the contact method in air and nitrogen. The results showed that the reaction is governed by the diffusion of the W 6+ and 0 2_ ions and that the rate determining step is the diffusion of oxygen ions in the reaction product. This is in agreement with the defect structure of copper tungstate, an n-type semiconductor with oxygen vacancies through which the diffusion process is possible. | | |

| Prediction of the Influence of Concentration on the Photoluminescence Decay Time of Solutions | | | Abstract
| A formula for the donor photoluminescence decay time in its dependence on the concentrations of donor D and acceptor A has been derived from equations for the non-radiative excitation energy transfer between randomly distributed donor and acceptor molecules within a nonactive medium. In the limit [D]/[A] -> 0 the formula becomes identical with that of Galanin [7], while in the absence of concentration quenching the fluorescence decay time does not depend on the concentrations. | | |

| High Temperature Behaviour of Positrons in Argon | | | Abstract
| The annihilation decay rates and average energy of positrons in argon gas have been calculated using the Boltzmann diffusion equation formalism at high temperatures as a function of electric fields. A comparison is made between the theoretical and experimental results. The agreement obtained is quite reasonable. | | |

| The reactions of C02-C02 + ions with S02 , 02, C2H2, COS, NH3, and CS2 have been re-investigated to determine the yields of products of the type C02-A + , where A is the neutral reactant molecule. The same products are also form-ed by third body attachment of A + to C02 . In addition, A2 + cluster ions are observed in several cases. Rate coef-ficients for these reactions are given. | | |

| Seven Shock-transformed Hexahedrites, Sensitive to Grainboundary Corrosion | | | Abstract
| Seven polycrystalline iron meteorites (Forsyth County, Holland's Store, Wathena, Pima Co., Chico Mountains, Kopjes Vlei and Mejillones), of bulk composition as normal hexahedrites of group 11 A, are shown to be severely altered hexahedrites. Mic-roprobe examination and various heat treatments of synthetic alloys support the conclusion that the meteorites after a primary slow cooling were subjected to shock-reheating above 800°C. Thereby the following transforma-tions took place a-^-y—>a2—>a, and an unequilibrated structure, very sensitive to grain-boundary corrosion was formed. | | |

| Solvent Effects on the Spectral Properties of the Methine Dyes | | | Abstract
| The spectral characteristics (absorption, fluorescence and lifetimes of fluorescence) of methine dyes in different solvents are presented. The results show that the methine dyes in polar solvents emit a dual fluorescence. From the dependence of the fluorescence spectrum on the dye con-centration it is suggested that excimer formation is responsible for the second band of fluorescence. | | |

| Electrochemical Determination of Phase Diagrams and Thermodynamic Data of Multi-Component Systems | | | Abstract
| The coulometric titration technique is extended to treat general cases of systems of any number of components. Complete equilibrium phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties are obtained from readily and precisely measurable electrical quantities, employing only a small number of samples. General equations are derived which directly relate the cell voltage to the standard Gibbs energies, enthalpies and entropies of formation of all phases involved without the necessity of considering specific cell reactions. The application of the technique to the ternary system Cu—Ge—O is demonstrated. | | |
