Title    EXAFS Spectroscopy with Amorphous Transition Metal-Metalloid Alloys
Abstract    EXAFS measurements were performed with amorphous T80M20 (T = Fe, Co, Ni; M = B, P). For the interpretation of the EXAFS spectra it was necessary also to compare them with spectra obtained from crystalline specimes with known atomic arrangement and with similar chemical composition such as the alloys Fe2B, C03B, NiaB as well as Fe3P, C03P, and NisP. As a radiation source the Ag-target of a rotating anode X-ray generator (6 kW) was used. The spectra were ob-tained using a flat LiF-(220) monochromator. The specimens were kept at 80 K and thus thermal effects could be reduced. The EXAFS spectra of the amorphous alloys and those of the corre-sponding crystalline compounds of the type T3M show among each other a relatively great simi-larity. The greatest similarity exists in the case of the Ni-and Co-alloys. The amorphous alloys based on iron however show larger discrepancies with respect to the corresponding crystalline ones, where the greatest deviation occurs with the compound Fe2B. The Fourier transforms show such similarities too. The EXAFS spectra of the crystalline elements Fe. Co, and Ni as well as their Fourier transforms evidently show differences compared to the amorphous specimens and to the T3M compounds. The similarities observed between the amorphous alloys and the corresponding crystalline specimens of the T3M-type together with their large discrepancies with respect to the pure metals led to the conclusion that the local structure in the amorphous alloys is in considerable accor-dance with that of the corresponding T3M-compound.

Title    A Comparative X-Ray Diffraction Study of Aqueous MnS04 and Crystals of MnS04 * 5 HaO
Abstract    X-ray single crystal analysis of MnS04 • 5H2O shows that the manganese atoms are octa-hedral ly coordinated by oxygen atoms, four of which belong to water molecules and two to sulphate groups. A model derived from the crystal structure was fitted to the X-ray scattering intensities from aqueous MnS04. Good agreement with experimental data is achieved using a model in which Mn(H20)6-2(0S03)z +2 " 2z interacts with about ten water molecules and each sulphate ion with about seven water molecules.

Title    Transition to Semiconducting Characteristics in Liquid Alkalimetal-Antimony-Alloys
Abstract    The paper reports new measurements of the electrical conductivity, thermoelectric power, magnetic susceptibility, and molar volume of liquid Cs-Sb alloys and, partly, Na-Sb and K-Sb alloys. From the temperature and composition dependence of the electronic properties it is con-cluded that typical semiconducting behavior similar to liquid chalgogen based alloy semiconduc-tors exists over a wide composition range. The change in bonding for 0.25^ Xsb^s 0.5 is qualita-tively discussed and it is found that these liquid alloys are not essentially ionic in character.

Title    Radial Distribution Function of Liquid Sodium
Abstract    The radial distribution function of liquid sodium has been studied by considering the integral equation Perturbation Theory of Madden and Fitts for the reference part and the optimised cluster theory for the attractive part of the pair potential. Calculations were carried out for the long range oscillatory potential of Schiff. The calculated results are compared with the molecular dynamics calculations HTA, OCT and with experiment. The agreement was found to be satis-factory.

Title    Structural Requirements for Intramolecular Charge-Transfer in Excited State of 4-(9-Anthryl)-N,N-dimethylaniline
Abstract    Excited state kinetics and other photophysical features of 4-(9-anthryl)-N,N-dimethylaniline and two model compounds have been thoroughly examined in order to establish the structural conditions for highly polar excited state formation. Also quantum chemical calculations by means of INDO/S CI and PCILO methods have been performed to obtain potential energy curves, dipole moments and atomic charge densities for the ground and lowest excited singlet states as a function of the angle of twist between anthryl and dimethylaniline subunits. Both the experimental and theoretical results confirm the previously proposed TICT (Twisted Intramolecular Charge-Transfer) model predicting the perpendicularity between electron donor and acceptor moieties as a condition for nearly full charge-separation in excited states for some classes of aromatic compounds.

 Title    \Iultistereo Synchrotron X-ray Topography
Abstract    Any two of several reflection or transmission x-ray opographs taken simultaneously with polychromatic vnchrotron radiation form a stereo pair. Multistereoscopic ransmission and reflection patterns of topographs taken rom a silicon and iron-silicon crystal are presented. The lirections and depths of defects are calculated from the neasurements on the images in two symmetric topographs.

Title    Model Calculation for the Fe80B20 Alloy Glass
Abstract    Three partial radial distribution functions [RDF's] are calculated by means of relaxed dense-random packing models for a Fe80B20 glass. The model structures reproduce fairly well recently reported experimental partial RDF's derived from x-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction using isotopic substitutional methods. Most significantly, both the model calculated by means of relaxed dense-random packing models GBB (r) > the appearance of a subpeak on the short distance side of the first peak.

Title    On the Anderson Transition in Electronic Color Centers Systems in Alkali Halide Crystals
Abstract    An alkali halide crystal with a high concentration of F-centers is considered. If some of these F-centers are ionized into anion vacancies (a-centers) released electrons can be trapped by other F-centers to form F'-centers. It is shown that for each original concentration of F-centers there is a certain concentration of F'-centers for which the random potential fluctuations due to negatively charged F'-centers and positively charged a-centers have enough amplitude to create Anderson localization condition in the system of F-, F'-and a-centers.

Title    Absorption of X-rays by Coplanar Four-beam Reflections
Abstract    The absorption effect in dispersion and reflection curves is shown for the a and n polarizations and for some wavelengths in the small wavelength interval in which the coplanar four-beam dif-fraction of x-rays exists. The investigated coplanar Ge[000, 440, 260, 220] reflections appear in a Ge[440, 220] monolithic monochromator working with CoKai radiation. It is shown that the absorption not only reduces the intensity in a complicated way but also changes the energy distribution between the participating reflections.

Title    On the Possibility of Stress Determination by Consideration of Pendellösung Effect
Abstract    In this paper a simplified method of stress estimation is proposed. The calculation is based on the Pendellösung effect (i.e. beat of two Bloch waves). It is assumed that lattice distortion causes a local change of fringe spacing. The results of the calculations appear to be consistent with results based on the consideration of separated curved trajectories of two Bloch waves related to both branches of the dispersion surface.

Title    Dislocations in Homoepitaxial Layers on "Dislocation Free" LEC-GaP Substrates
Abstract    Dislocation structures in S-and N-doped homoepitaxial layers on GaP wafers are studied by high voltage electron microscopy. Many dislocations are introduced in the epilayer, even if the substrate is nearly dislocation free. The origins of the dislocations in this case are the microdefects, especially the perfect dislocation loops in the substrate. Dislocation dipoles are induced by dis-location half loops appearing at the epi-substrate interface and are classified into three types, two of which are concerned with the interactions of two dipoles in the epilayer, each interaction yielding a screw dislocation segment. The third type of dipole does not extend into the epilayer so far, but terminates and forms an elongated dislocation loop. The interactions and the termina-tions of dipoles decrease the density of the induced dislocations in proportion to the distances from the interface. The screw dislocations generated by the dipole interactions relax the torsional lattice distortion of the epilayer caused by dopant materials.

Title    Experimental and Theoretical Studies on X-ray Plane Wave Images of a Dislocation in the Laue Case
Abstract    Plane wave images of a dislocation in a silicon crystal were observed with (404) diffraction of MoKai over a wide angular range. The fine structures consisting of five kinds of sub-images and their angular dependences were well simulated by the wave theory taking into account the finite angular spread and pc'arization states of the incident beam. The mechanism of the image for-mation is studied in terms of interbranch scattering, Eikonal theory and kinematical diffraction.

Title    Enskog-Boltzmann-Equation for a Fluid of Nonspherical Particles
Abstract    The Enskog-Boltzmann-equation is generalized to fluids of nonsperical particles with fixed orientation, i.e. for overdamped rotational motion. General relations between the interparticle position vector at the instant of contact, the impact parameter and the differential cross section are derived. The dependence of these quantities of the orientations of the colliding particles is studied for the special case of hard ellipsoids.

Abstract    An electrode potential study of liquid Al-Ge-Sn alloys has been conducted with the cell Al | AP+ in KCl + LiCl | Al in Al-Ge-Sn in the temperature range 683 K ^ T ^ 1273 K. Aluminium partial mixing functions were determined for alloys. These measurements allow us to give the surface corresponding to aluminium partial free energy at 1273 K and the liquidus surface of the Al-Ge-Sn phase diagram.

Title    On the Linearity of Certain Coordinate Transformations Including the Lorentz Transformation
Abstract    It is shown that, given choices of units and of synchronization in the moving systems which are independent of the time and space coordinates, the linearity of the transformation equations connecting uniformly moving reference systems is a consequence of the fact that the functions deciding the behaviour of moving bodies and clocks are independent of the time and space co-ordinates ("homogeneity of time and space").
